RealMedia is annoying, clunky and garbage-filed IMHO.

Down with rm.

mplayer can play them just fine. and yes, they do suck. blurry, blocky video, audio that sounds like a 1930's radio. Why don't these people just use DivX? Or at least quicktime...

Why media players need to install blinking icons in the system tray is beyond me... Even if you can disable them, they're still a pain in the ass. All they do is play media, so what the f*ck?

I don't get it. Yeah, rm files usually suck. RM files are also usually streamed content from some website. DivX movie rips look great, but take DivX down to 7Kb/s and see how great it looks. When 300k streams are offered in Realmedia or MS format they tend to look about the same, if anything Realmedia looks better. Take it up to 2000kbps and see how it compares to mpeg before saying SVCDs look better than modem streams of realvideo.

I gave up on realaudio back in version 1.0 when I found out about this newfangled mp3 stuff and started recording audio to it instead. But even there .ra files of low bitrate are more listenable than mp3 of the same. I don't like the lack of player options, but the codecs themselves seem quite respectable on a bit for bit basis.

Hey I got a special codec pack that makes mpc play all rm files. It is an installer. If someone wants to host it I will send it to them via email. I would host it but the AT effect would kill me.
