I don't know why this is happening, however w2k will not detect my monitor. It's detected as a DEFAULT monitor and there no listing for a monitor in the device manager.

It's very strange - must be a Radeon driver issue or something.
 
Add one manually, use 'plug in play' or get an inf file. I've always considered monitor detection iffy, I have a dual setup and every couple weeks one of my monitors reverts to a 'plug and play' monitor, at which setting my refresh rate abilities are always a good 10Hz below their real max.
