Who here has the fastest/most expensive(by today's standards, not when you bought it) right? Please post your own rig, not a workstation you use at work unless you paid for it. I'm just curious who is on top here and how my system compares.

Who here has the fastest/most expensive rig?

Mine may not be the fastest but I have 2 systems that I have dumped around 4k on total.

edit: It should be the fastest with 4k involved right? ...Wrong , I have about 70% of it jammed into
my monitors and audio equipment because those things are important to me.

That rig would eat your face in 91-92. I had a Compaq exactly like that.

Well...

I KNOW I'm not the fastest, but I'd probably be up there in TOTAL processing power under one roof (home):

Fastest to slowest:

P4 2.0 GHz overclocked to 2.4 GHz (new lan machine)
P4 2.0 GHz (main home machine)
P4 1.5 GHz (was main lan machine)
AMD Tbird 1.4 GHz (internet gateway machine)
PIII 1.0 GHz (laptop)
PIII 733 MHz (kid's computer)
PII 400 MHz (other kid's computer)
PIII 550 Celeron (wife's laptop)

Between the three P4 systems, I have a total of 460 GB of hard drive space.

Why so many? I run seti, but the real reason is I'm not very good at selling a computer whenever I build another one. Like in my situation now, I'm going to sell the two low end computers, and move the AMD and P4 1.5 to the kids. But... I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. :)

My two systems are definitely not the fastest, but my friend recently busted out with this not so shabby system:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Athlon XP 2800+ (Thoroughbred)
1.5GB PC2700 (DDR333) DDR-SDRAM
180GB Western Digital w/ 8MB Cache
Sony 4X DVD-R/RW
An Old 56X CD-ROM
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 eX

But of course, some rich person here probably has the dream system with a 3GHz Pentium 4, 1GB PC1066 RDRAM, Dual 200GB Western Digital 8MB Cache HDDs, All-in-wonder Radeon 9700Pro, and you get the drift...

I remember my dad's IBM PS2 w/ microchannel. That baby was fully tricked out w/

intel 80386 16mhz+ math co processor unit
3 mb ram
60 mb hd
16 color vga techonology
It cost about 8K too, back in '88 i think.

Dual AMD Athlon XP 1800+
1.25 GB RAM
Radeon 9700 overclocked
80GB Western Digital 8MB Cache Drive
11GB Maxtor Drive
40x12x40 CD-RW
16x DVD Slot load
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Probably not the fastest, I like to think of it as "robust".

:p

Its not mine, but I am building it for a client that is an extream gamer. Here are the specs:

Intel 3.06ghz HT-enabled
Gigabyte GA-SINXP1394
1024mb of DDR400 RAM 2x 512 chips to take advantage of DCDDR
ATI Radeon 9700Pro
2x 160gb WD SE 8mb cache drives in Raid 0

Those are just the main specs that effect proformance. The rest of the system is triped out as well. When I finish optomizing I will post 3dMarks if anyone cares.

I think most of us now realize how useless it is to plunk down so much money on certain parts....

But the average price of PCs definitely seem to be down..only vaguely though ;)
