And how you got it... Your fault?
I've just recently upgraded my keychain from a FCPGA Celly to an Athlon XP 1600+. And it was my fault

Rebuilt a client's computer. (my mom). My brother had shipped it to her from FL (I'm in CA and so is my mom). He was sooo proud of it. Best of everything he said... Too bad he shipped an assembled PC in the stock generic box the CASE came in! With the flimsy cardboard and 1" foam corners. Ouch.
So I replaced the case that had a new right angle in it (heh) with the one I just upgraded from. Generic ATX with 300w ps. I was looking at the CPU and saw AS goo all over it. Bad. The sh1t was dripping off the CPU there was so much! I guess my bro subscribes to the "if a little is good, a lot must be better" theory. So I pull the Antec JetCool he put on there off and start rubbing things down with alcohol. Well, I discovered he had left the original compound pad crap on the HSF. (Pad and AS? I'm surprised the thing didn't blow up.) I rubbed the pad gunk off as well and put a dab of AS on and reassembled.
PC running great and I leave my mom's house.
Calls me later "it crashed and won't boot up". Well, if she let it cool it would boot. Something's obviously overheating. She keeps trying even though I tell her to leave it alone.
Long story somewhat less long: I hadn't cleaned enough of the pad off, and that sh1t turns to plastic when it's been heated. So there was a tiny plastic ball between the HSF and the CPU preventing contact between the two. Rainbow colored XP 1600+ core now. Cost me a new 1700+. My mom didn't believe the JetCool that was originally on there was better than the stock retail HSF and demanded I use the stock one. Fine. JetCool on eBay now. 1600 on my keychain. Wallet lighter.
