A friend wants to be able to surf the net and work from her boat (just intercoastal not far out) so what mobile phone companies offer a good deal for connectivity?
she has ATT now and would prefer to stay with them.

So far Nextel is the cheapest i've found at about $60.00/month, but I think it's like a dialup modem, most others (verizon/att) are $100/month unlimted, but supposdly verizon is "always on"

I think this would be easier in Japan ;)

Sprint PCS offers unlimted internet data on their vision plans. The vision service can be used as a modem and gets speeds of 30 to 70 k a second.

Sprint changed their TOS with the phones. While you can use the phone as a modem they say not to use it too much. They will drop you as a customer at their discretion if you abuse that. Now, you can buy a PCMCIA wireless card from them and get data that way as well. They have 20-60 megabyte plans for $40-$80 or something and $100 unlimited plan.

Well, for high speed I would say so. People are reporting about 70kbps average speed. The claimed top speed is 144k but I doubt anyone has broken 110k.
