Who has smelt burnt computer?

I have too many times... (two motherboards, stick of ram, and cpu) What do you think it smells like? To me it was like burnt cheese, and I still flinch every time I see a small puff of smoke rise from the stove...

Now to where this is leading to... when is AMD going to start implementing the anti cpu burn thing with new motherboards? To me, that seems like a must because, as I already know, accidents DO happen!

Well, I had my iguana crap in my monitor and fry it, which created a bit of smoke. I was typing and noticed him lifting up a bit(he always sits and watches me on the puter)and I said Gordon nooooooooo, but alas it was too late. I don't know if any of you have ever seen iguana poop but it's mostly liquid, and nasty looking. Needless to say my monitor stopped working in a matter of minutes to my chagrin.

veryape: That sucks! Have you ever seen Final Destination? Liquid into the monitor = explosion, resulting in chards of the glass flying everywhere! (in MovieLand, anyway...hehe)

Veryape....OMG that is sad but funny.

I have smelled fryed MOBOs, RAM etc, I guess I would describe the smell as burnt wood and plastic ish.

No, never saw the movie but I can picture what Hollywood would make it look like....huge explosions and what not. It's not like that at all, in fact it worked for a couple of minutes before it made it's last bzzztt noise and went to sleep....forever.

Would hate to be the technician that had a look at it.. "WTF is this shlt doing in here??" 😀

I am pretty partial to the smell of fried Graphics Cards... I have killed a cheap ATI and a Matrox G400 🙂

I can't really answer your question, but it can be done. My Soyo K7VTA-B has the feature. Basically if the CPU fan speed drops to Zero, then the system immediately shuts down. If there is no RPM signal on the connector to the CPU fan it will not turn on. Some motherboards (my Abit BE6-II does, and possibly most of their current line) in the BIOS has a CPU warning temp and a CPU Shutoff temp that can be set (I'm not sure about AMD.) Once you have a system running in Windows, and provided your CPU has a temperature setting, you could install Motherboard Monitor 5, it can do the same functions, when configured correctly.

I blew a fuse on the ps when I plugged a fan in while the comp was running...

Smelled pretty bad, but alas the damn computer still works so
