Other than the soyo dragon and i believe one or more of the chaintechs, does anyone else make a board w/ this chip (onboard nic would be nice too)?? Building a system for a friend and I just got this card.. and for the price, it's pretty hard to beat.

thanks

The company that actually started using these chips was PC-Chips (including ECS). They had the ISA PnP CMI8330, then the 8338 and finally the 8738 and 8738-6CH. On chipsets with good integrated sound engines however they don't use it anymore. Some of their VIA and Intel chipset mainboards still have it (with modem function!).

You get a hint of how many companies use the 8738 by looking at the Windows driver .INF file. Last time I looked there were around 150 card and mainboard IDs listed in there.

I think the Gigabyte GA-7VTX-H or GA-7VTX-H+ has onboard sound and onboard lan. I think the sound is Creative four channel. I don't have any personal experience with this board but you might want to take a look at it.
