America kicks ass, India is a shthole. Explain.Originally posted by: TitanDiddly
Americans are lazy and spoiled. That means you.
Indians have work ethic.
There are intelligent people from all over the world...what this article does make clear is that there is a huge quality of life gap between the have's and have not's in India...far more pronounced and poignant then the same dynamic in America...far from my right to criticize another culture or country given that America has its own problems, but for anyone to make the claim that Indian students are beacons of work ethic and American students are lazy is ridiculous at best.have you ever been to India, this article is talking about how smart some Indian students are, you are obviously ignorant just like lot of people percieve Americans to be

GRE is a lot easier than SAT's to get 800's on because you don't have to get them all right. And the test is a joke anyways. practice questions
Not saying there aren't great schools and smart people out there, but the media likes to blow things way out of proportion.
The result is apparent at No. 2 Secondary School. The
students live in dormitories, going home only on weekends,
and they're mostly studying from 6:30 a.m. until lights-out
at 11 p.m. On Saturdays they attend tutoring classes from
9:40 to 5:10, and on Sundays they do what one girl, Gong Lan,
described as six hours of "self-assigned homework."

That being said, I sense a slight taint in your ranking, as MIT and Stanford consistently rank higher then Caltech in most school surveys and ranking...as for IIT, as it is a national Indian coglomerate school, is an apples and oranges comparison to private or even state universities in America.
There is also a differential between undergrad and graduate programs in terms of ranking.
That being said, I certainly wouldn't look down on anyone who graduates from any one of the schools you listed...they are all cream of the crop.

This is not really a fair comparison to say IIT is better than all.
India has a population of 1 billion plus.....you can easily get a pool of 2-3000 geniuses.
If you took a larger population sample of N. & S. America you'd get similar pools. Some of the scholly kids from S. America I met were crazy smart and graduated in the top 1% in top undergrad/grad programs.
The best research is generally conducted in the US, which is why we have the most Nobel Prizes bar none. Our schools train outside-of-the-box thinking very well.
The US is fortunate to attract the best minds of Asia and India to live here. Their success equals America's success. Americans log in the most hours at work and are the most productive (but not efficient) AND provide the carrot of offering the highest salaries. Foreigners will continue to be attracted to this. Just like German reserachers of yore coming to the US, now it's Asia/India.
In the end, top street smarts and ambition count as much or more than 1% book smarts. Many billionaires in the past century didn't even finish high school....
