Outpost.com is where I got my Klipsch Promedias a couple months back.. they're $249 with free overnight shipping... you get it the next day as long as you order by midnight I believe. :)

paruhd0x:

That scratchy, static sound you're getting when you turn the volume knob is dust interfering with the connectors (or something like that). You can get rid of it by turning the volume knob from min to max really fast a few times. At least that works for me...

I got mine from Outpost.com. Ordered them Sunday 12/17 and they were here yesterday. $249.99 and free shipping. Great sounding speakers.

I am using a Phillips Accoustic Edge. It has three outputs, front, rear, and center/sub. The Sub shares the signal with the front channel on the PM's, so I am going to connect one front input from the PM's to the center/sub output, the second front input to the front output, and use a Y adapter to attach both rear inputs from the PM's to the rear output of the soundcard. I will post my results...

talk about a waste of money!! 8.2?? who the hell needs that? if you want some high quality sound i suggest you invest in some REAL hometheater speakers, and not pc speakers.

klipsch.com:p I get no scratching from my knob, then again i only use my logitech keyboard to control volume:) Hard to reach knob when wall mounted. Oh yea, wall mounts are cheap at klipsch. i think it was 2 mounts for $25

Insane, that IS insane. You could have put that $500 towards a nice receiver and some AR or Paradigm speakers that will sound about 20 times better. The Promedia's are very good (for computer speakers) but they lack so much in the mid range compared to regular home theater speakers that it's not even funny. No comparison.

kami i couldn't agree with you more. Paradigm has some GREAT sounding low-end hometheater speakers. I was auditioning some at my local audio store and they sounded great compared to the competition. For those who think that their pc's can compete with real hometheater systems, they really need to audition some real hometheater speakers.

I agree completely kami and sudheer. The Cambridge DT2500 and Klipsch both sound very good for multimedia speakers, but sound pretty bad compared to even lowend home theater systems, which are also more versatile. There is no reason for anyone to spend $500 on computer speakers. Save up a bit more and you can get a decent home theater setup that will sound far better.

As far as the scratchy sound/volume knob thing goes, call up their tech support and ask if you can get a replacement. That's what they did for me.

Ok, I think I need to clarify myself here. First of all, $500 on computer speaker is excessive, but I did not pay $500. I bought one set of the Promedia's for my PC. I asked for the 2.1 set for xmas so I could listen to true 5.1 with a 6.2 set up. The person who was buying me that present said I could get the 4.1 set if I wanted to...I figured why not...so it's free. Second, a home stereo and speakers would do a better job, but I already have a full dolby digital system downstairs. These PM's are for my room and I really was not gonna drop a ton of cash for another component system upstairs. I do not agree that the cambridge DT2500 speakers are anywhere near the Klipsch speakers in performance and sound, and neither are any of the cambridge line of speakers, IMO. The room upstairs is fairly small and a larger component system is not really needed. I thought I would do something different for the room, and a multi PM set-up sounded like a good idea. Also, my Promedia's sound much better on my Philips AE than they ever did on my Live 5.1. Soooo, my point is that I am not dropping $500 on this project, just the $249 for my original set and another $60 or so for some nice 14 guage wire. Plus, it is a blast planning all the stuff like layout, how I will run the wires, how to set them up for optimal sound, etc. I think a setup of two sats as the center with sub, two sats with sub as the front channel in the front corners, two sats at the mid point of the room, wall mounted up high, and two final sats at the back corners of the room, wall mounted up high will make for a immersive gaming/DVD/music experience...I mean 800W RMS in a little room like mine...LOL. :Q

hehe:) Yea your right about the dtt2500's not being anywhere near:p I had a set b4 i got my klipsch. It didn't match my older microworks so i was pretty peeved off. Even if creative built their 5.1 system using microworks components instead of soundworks components it would not match klipsch. Cambridge was the best, but now they've gotta get off their asses and scrap their old designs. Those dtt2500 speaker sats are based on 5+ year old designs, only subwoofer gets changed...its sad:(

Yeah, I know what you mean. It seems Creative just seems to bank more on people buying their speakers because they see the Cambridge name. It's probably exactly what happens too. I mean people are very brand loyal with electronic components...especially speakers. Creative rakes in a ton of money, and concentrates more on marketing than to product improvements because people just keep buying them regardless. I could be wrong, but I don't think the speakers are even made by cambridge anymore..they just liscense the name....not sure though.
