Want three seaters with storage room in the bow.
Leaning towards Sea Doo as I have always been a Can Am fan. Any input?

I think jet-skis are something you ride on when being pulled by a boat...

Then STFU and stop thinking.

I was on a supercharged SeaDoo last weekend....RXI (I think that's the model)....

I was doing 70mph on the water....it handled awesome compared to the late 90s models I'm used to riding. I highly recommend it. Just be careful because the intakes are so powerful you can get rocks, anchor ropes, etc stuck in them.....I'm not kidding when I say they pull a lot of water....

We have a jet boat but are tired of it and looking for something a little different.
How was the fuel consumption on it?

If you are indeed in lovely Grass Valley. Tahoe no longer permits 2-strokes on the lake, iirc. Four strokes only and many other fresh water lakes in Cal are headed that way.

Just my 2 pennies on jet-skis, aside from the asshats running out of fuel going over to Catalina Island down here.

I wouldn't get 2 strokes. And I an 1.2 miles from the ramp at Rollins Lake.

It was pretty decent as long as I wasn't hitting the supercharger. When REALLY accelerating, you could tell it was sucking down the fuel. They can really hold the fuel though....I think it was about $45 for a fillup.

I was on a 4 stroke kawasaki. Hit 69mph on decently calm seas. Didnt seem to suck down fuel though. I think aften an hour of riding, about 15 minutes of WOT, it was only down a little more than an eighth of a tank.

Once you plane over, fuel consumption is a little better, but you're still moving as much water as the ski displaces. There's a lot of drag on them....if you can avoid going wide-open and utilizing the max acceleration, your fuel tank will thank you.

rental. 😉 I paid $65 im using all the fuel I can get.

I'm not a 'touring' type of jetski rider. I rent the Skidoo III's with the flat bottom for tricks. I rented a V bottom once, and made a big mistake trying to to a 180. I almost killed myself and ripped off my leg. Thankfuly the only loss was my watch and the safety.

oldsmoboat,

Honestly, you don't have to stick with any brand. They're all pretty well refined at this point.

I've owned a few in my day and my current machine is a 2001 GTX-DI. (DI is Direct Injection which still allows it to be used on Tahoe & other green-type waterways).

*IF* you can ride a couple you're interested in, I'd highly recommend it. You want to see how you feel in the seat.

Example:

Yamaha's have a very upright handlbar steup which tends toward "bus" style steering.

SeaDoos tend toward more "rearward" handlebars which (to me) tend toward a more relaxed steering position.

Kawasaki is probably between the two depending on the model. (They *can* get more upright in some models)

If you want to buy new, it's completely up to you. Go kick the tires as much as possible before you decide.

If you want to buy used, I can recommend the hull I ride on. It was used by Sea Doo from '96 thru '02. GTX in any form is fine. If I had to buy one today I think I might still buy a used '01 GTX-DI. ('01 was an excellent year).
