Who has installed XP Media Center?

Ok so I have Windows XP Media Center and have tried installing it like 10 times apparently I am missing something here. The first disc is primarily just a Windows XP Pro cd right? The second disk when I explore it just has a "components" folder with "mediactr" "tablet" and something else in it. When installing it it gets down to like 28 mins remaining asks for disk 2, then goes a little further then asks for Service Pack 2 (Disk 1) again. The whole thing installs just fine but when it is all done I have regular Windows XP Professional. What is wrong????

Are you sure its just regular XP pro? You don't have a "Media Center" folder in the "accessories" program group and running the "Energy Blue" Theme default?

This is the way it installs, there should be nothing wrong just a little non-descriptive on MS's part, but you are correct with the assumption to put disc 1 back in when it asks for SP2 disc, everything should be there, as for the OS, it really looks like XP Pro, just that now there should be Green button Media center Icon in the start menu.

Did you use a Media Center product key? The key is what determines what OS is installed. Although, since it did prompt you for disc two, that would seem to indicate you either used a MCE or a Tablet key.

What does the window say when you to go start, run and type winver?

Am I correct in that Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is actually Windows XP Professional but with the media center features? There is a lot of confusion about this subject on the Internet so I figured I'd ask the trusted folks on Anandtech 🙂

No, it is XP with media center features. The feature set of MCE most closely resembles the Pro feature set, but there are differences (like no cached credentials).
