Who has experienced/applied the 2 day rule, and why does it exist?

This past Tuesday, I asked a girl if she wanted to hang out on Wednesday. She said she was busy. On wednesday I asked her if she wanted to hang out on Thursday. She said, "It would have been nice if you asked me on Tuesday". Even though she didn't have any plans, she still wouldn't say YES to me. Turns out that it's like a 2 day rule or something. I'm supposed to ask her at least 2 days in advance for a date or whatever.

Needless to say, my jaw had dropped after hearing about the 2 day rule. Since then, I've been asking all my male/female friends to confirm such an absurd rule.

Last night, I ran into a couple of old female friends at a local piano bar. I asked them about it and they were like, "....and..?" I was like, "AND?!?!" They then proceded to tell me that that stupid rule does exist and they actually apply it to the male species.

So much for being spontaneous.

Feel free to share your experiences or any other crazy rules.

I've heard of it, but it's mainly been in a joking way. Anyone who seriously applies it needs to be shot and/or avoided.

Read the book, "the rules". It's a conservative book on dating. Read the book, learn the rules, be successful.

Such rules are applied by clueless people who are unable and unable to go for what they want. I wouldn't call this silly cow again if she's going to act like a 12 year old. There are no rules except in the artificial world of Swingers.

It makes sense to have a little warning, but saying no just because of some retarded "rule" is a load of crap. Always better to have a day or so to check you can make it etc.

If she wanted to see you, she'd have said yes and ignored the rule. Sounds more like an excuse, and a pathetic one at that.

I've asked girls the same day if later that day if they want to do something. Makes no sense.

First of all, no 'rule' applies to all people in all situations.

Allowing a girl sufficient time to plan for a date is a Good Thing. Perhaps she had made plans for Thursday, but if she knew you wanted to go out with her, wouldn't have made those plans, so that she could have spent time with you.

Spontanaiety has its place. So does planning.

Are you talking about this book?

That's insane.

Anyhow, I told her I don't have time for her absurd rules. I ended up making some other plans on thursday. On Thursday, she called after work but i didn't answer. She called again around 10pm, and I didn't answer again. I finally returned her calls at 11pm, she told me that she had called earlier to see if I was still coming over for a Blockbuster night.

 :disgust:

I told her, "Oh, I thought I couldn't see you so I had made other plans."

Then she explained that "It's just nice to know in advance, just in case i already have plans" What a load of crap especially since she wasn't even doing anything. If she had plans then fine, no biggy.

I think she's trying to tame someone that doesn't respect schedules. Power thing maybe?

the kicker is that SHE HAD NO PLANS WHATSOEVER!

and you don't need time to 'get ready' for a Blockbuster night.....welll.....unless....:D:evil:

regardless, i'm wondering if she read that book. that's scary.
