lol, unfortunately i think when it comes to unlocked phones, we do not have as many experts.

can you just shell out for a milestone or if you want cheaper, htc hero?

Unlocked phones are nothing special. I unlocked my phone in like 2 minutes using free SGS unlock app from the Android market. SGS phones are probably the most popular Android phones out right now with over 7 million sold worldwide.

Generally when people say unlocked, they mean unsubsidized. Which is the case here

Problem is the guy is from Canada. From what I know, Canada uses 850/1900 also meaning he can get a AT&T phone and unlock it. But why? There's more choices out there with pre-unlocked phones.

The Aria is just like a Legend and the Captivate is just like a regular Galaxy S. There's no reason for him to buy an AT&T phone unlocked unless he really likes them.

That's why I suggested the Milestone (perhaps wait for Milestone 2?) or just get the HTC Legend. sorry I mentioned Hero but that's the old version of the Legend. If you're willing to shell out maybe the HTC Desire would be nice.

Tmobile service is very spotty and horrible, at least here in NE Kansas. I've had them and would never ever recommend anyone using them in this part of the country.

i do agree with the spotty service. Generally if you stay in bigger/ more populated cities you should be solid.

In chicago i have no issues but when i go about 100 miles into the burbs i might have 3g issues but minor service issues. When i go into Wisconsin its pretty horrible up there. But for the price i pay VS all the other carriers, i can live with it. If i didn't get all my special plans and discounts i would of jumped shipped.
