Who has all 3 current gen consoles? And why?

I just ordered one of the new crippled 80gb PS3 and with that, I'll have all 3 of the current gen consoles. With that in mind, I'm curious who else has the 3 current gen consoles and why you are as insane as me to waste this much money. I know I'll never have enough time to play all of the games on each system that I want to...no way, no how. What was your rationale for picking them up?

PS3 - I ordered the PS3 not so much for it being a game console as I don't think there are many killer games being published for it that I can't get on the 360. I ordered it primarily as a blu-ray player and a I got a game console as a bonus. I'll probably pick up some exclusives like MGS4, but overall, it's about the movies.

Wii - It was the hot thing to get at launch. I camped out for it, and now I promptly never play the thing except when we have a party and a bunch of people over. I think this calendar year so far, I've play a total of 5 hours. e.g. this is my party system as it's easily accessible for the non-gamer. We just plop in Wii Sports and that'll keep people occupied all night.

360 - I've been an Xbox guy since the original, so it was logical for me to pick this one up when it launched. I'm on my 2nd one now because of RROD, and it's still by far my favorite gaming system and I anticipate it will be until the next gen comes out. I picked up the HD-DVD unit for it, but we all know how well that ended. If HD-DVD had won, I probably would've never even considered a PS3. In addition, we use this as our primary DVD player, and it's incredibly loud when playing DVDs. Another reason to look at the PS3 as it's supposedly much quieter for movies.

PS3 - Movies

At one time i had all 3.

Wii - I got one at launch, liked it a lot for the time being. I had it for a year until it started collecting dust. Eventually ebayed it last christmas. About 5 months later I ran into a guy that was selling one at work really cheap with games and the whole 9 ($200), i ended up picking this up, just because of the price and I traded in the cheesy games. Now this sits in my spare room just incase anyone wants to play it on a SD TV lol.

PS3 - Picked up a 60gb on ebay right before the 1st Wii got sold. This is my gaming system, ever since i picked up an hdtv, graphics are ridiculous compared to Wii, blu-rays are really nice and it upconverts my dvd collection. Also the media server is great, i stream movies from my laptop to PS3 without a hiccup wirelessly. Upgraded the hdd without a problem too (120gb).

360 - Another guy at work had one Premium RROD and didn't feel like RMAing it, picked up for $250 at the time they were going for $350. Got it back from RMA and only had Halo3. I didnt really like halo3 at all which had a bad first impression for me, the system was really loud, I noticed the controllers weren't rechargeable, had no wireless, no hdmi, and you have to pay for live yearly. I ended up ebaying this.

I do.

Got the Wii first. I've always been a fan of Nintendo games, and the new control scheme intrigued me. Pre-ordered from Amazon.com before launch. I still think the controllers are great, but the lack of really great games and the relatively poor online support has pulled me away from the Wii since I got...

Got the Xbox 360 second. Wow. I have a few complaints, but this really is a fantastic console. I use this the most; I buy any cross-platform games for the Xbox 360, because I prefer its controller and all of my friends have 360s for multiplayer.

Got the PS3 third, because I got 20% off buying it at K-mart. Got it for its exclusives and for Blu-ray capability.

I use both the Xbox 360 and PS3 for streaming video, and I have an old Xbox modded with XBMC that I'll also be using when I get my house set up.

I own all three.

360 - I liked the original XBox and it was the system most of my friends were planning on buying. So far I've been very please with the quality of the games and haven't been bit directly by the RRoD. I sold my launch system and replaced it with an Elite. My launch system RRoD on the guy I sold it to like 2 weeks after he got it, I guess the shipping pushed it over the edge. Thankfully he was able to get it fixed under the 3-year warranty.

PS3 - I've been a fan of the PS series since the original plus I really wanted a Blu-ray player. The PS3 has also turned into the dominate media streaming device over the 360 thanks to how easy it is to convert MKVs for the system. Games were slow at first, but things have picked up and there have been some truly great exclusive title along the way (Uncharted, R&C, Hot Shots, MGS4...) and though the selection in the PSN store is small it has a lot of quality. Very pleased so far.

Wii - *sigh* What can I say? Very disappointed. I really hoped things were going to make a turn for the better and I got sucked in by the hype. I managed to snag a system on launch day. It saw a lot of use the first month or two, but only sparse use after that. The 360 and PS3 see as much use in a single gaming session as the Wii sees across several months. I'm sure it's great for Nintendo and their bank account that they've tapped into the masses, but for me it's actually step down from the Cube.

In truth, I'm basically a gaming junkie. I don't I sit around playing games all day, but I can't seem to resist having all the systems. Though I may actually try to skip Nintendo's next console, which would be a first for me.

I am just short the Wii to go for the next-gen flush (PS3/360/PSP/DS). Kind of glad I never got it as most people seem to regret it.

I own all three. Also got a PSP, DS Lite, and a GBA. (I'd be more impressed if this was a "do you own the royal flush?" topic.)

Xbox 360 Elite: Bought this after my Premium went on the RRoD treadmill of doom. Still love it, and consider it my primary next-gen console. Best game library, friendliest interface, and the XBL ecosystem is amazing. I have some quibbles with some choices that Microsoft made, but I still like it the most, by far.

Playstation 3 60gb: Bought this along with the Wii, but considerably after the 360. Mostly purchased as an upscaling PS2 and BR-D player - I own like a total of five PS3 games, compared to like 35 for the 360 and 20 for the PS2. I don't regret buying it, but I am not totally sold on it as a gaming system. This may change when they get some more exclusive RPGs out - Disgaea 3 is a good start, and so is the upcoming Eternal Sonata.

Wii: Bought this with the PS3, way after the 360. It basically gathers dust unless there's a hot new release or we have friends over. The games simply have no depth, and feel like dumbed-down versions of their Gamecube predecessors (glares at MKW). That said, the Gamecube compatibility is nice for when you feel like sampling some of the good old days of the Gamecube. I think I have like six games for the Wii, and five for the 'cube.

Playtime-wise, my PS3 sees the most time, but only because it's my PS2. Otherwise, the 360.

i had all 3, only one i didn't get at it's launch was PS3.

i sold my wii after owning it for about 18 months because it hardly has any good games and there is not 1 game in development for the console i care about.

i still play my ps3 and xbox360 pretty much daily.

360-my favorite system
ps3-80 gig that I got for 240 bucks, why not?!
wii-junk(Galaxy is damn good though) and it's my kids.

I've owned all three, but not at the same time. I got a X360 a few years ago then sold it, 'cause there wasn't any games I wanted to play on it. Plus, the RROD scares the shit outta me.

Currently own Wii and PS3. I'm indecisive about selling the Wii, I haven't played it in months. I kinda wanna get the PSP-3000 anyway so I can remote play BCR, PixelJunk Monsters and Eden.

I play PS3 and DSLite the most.

PS3 - Bought it mainly for Blu-Ray. Not really into online multiplier or FPS so for games that interest me and are both platforms, I buy the PS3 version.

Wii - It's a loss cause. Haven't turned it on for months. I'm gonna sell it along w/ the Wii Fit, and half a dozen Wii exclusive games. Some I've never got around to open the shrink wrap. Damn the hype bug.

I own all three now, but I rarely if ever touch the Wii. If I manage to have no games that I want to buy for the 360 and PS3, I'll pick up a few of the Wii games I never bought, but other then that, my wife is the only one who plays it ever 2 or 3 months. The only upside to the Wii was that it was a present, so I never paid for it.

Wii - I bought this just to piss off the annoying mom standing behind me in line (there was only one left)

PS3 - Blu-ray mainly.

Xbox360 - I bought it a long time ago thinking there would be a lot of homebrew stuff for it. Not sure if there is

360 - System I like the most and play the most. I look for games first on this system.

PS3 - Got a good deal on it. Only paid 250.00 for it when it was 400.00 or 500.00. Blu-Ray and a few titles I wanted to get.

Wii - Wife and kids like it and play this.

Can you explain how you convert MKV for each system? I thought it would be the same since they both play the same video codecs. Am I totally wrong on this?

Oh I only have a Wii and 360 by the way.

Nope, just PS3. It was new, shiny, Blu-ray and didn't have a reputation for dying.

I wanted a Wii, but then couldn't find any games I actually wanted.

Already have a 360 in the house. Don't use it, don't want to all that much either.

I have a 360
Roommate has a PS3
Roommat's gf (also very close friend of mine) has a Wii.

Of those 3 I'd say the PS3 gets the least use. We both own so many DVD's, and it seems that DVD playback is better on the 360 than the PS3. He only owns a few BluRay movies. And really there haven't been that many games on the PS3 we've both thought were must gets. I personally just don't care that much about the Wii, the couple times I've played it I didn't really have that much fun with it.

My 360 was WAY more fun before Ninja Gaiden 2 errored in level 10 and I can't continue. And since it doesn't appear to be a disc error, I am out of ideas that will let me continue without starting over. It's amazing how much losing a save game about 2/3 of the way through on one of the hardest freaking games ever can kill your motivation.

Oh I only have a Wii and 360 by the way.

They both do support the same codecs, but there are a few differences. There are a few ultilities out there that can quickly remux MKVs into formats each system can use.

For example, for the 360 you can use XenonMKV or GotSent. These can remux MKVs into MP4 files very quickly, but there are limitations on the 360 will accept. The surround sound, if the MKV file has it, will be reduced to 2-channel audio. The 360 also has 4 GB file size limit for MP4 files. So if the file is larger than 4 GB it will need to be split in two or the 360 will not play it.

To get around these issues you would have to convert to WMV format. I've actually done this a fair amount of times and it's rather tedious and long. Going to WMV requires a transcode and the process on my quad core PC still usually took 10-12 hours. For people will slower machines the process can top 24 hours. The sad part is, there were a few times where I'd do a 12 hour encode only to find the audio was not in sync or that the video itself transcode screwed up half way through for whatever reason. But then I discovered MKV2VOB.

MKV2VOB is a utility that can remux the x264 video and AC3 audio in an MKV file into a VOB file. The process normally takes 1-2 minutes and the PS3 can play them perfectly. The video is 100% perfect to source since it's a remux and not a transcode, the surround sound audio it retained, and there's no file size limitation on the PS3. If the MKV has DTS audio then MKV2VOB will change it to AC3, but that process doesn't take long... maybe 15-30 minutes. There are a few MKVs that require a minor transcode, but MKV2VOB handles that as well. The transcodes take maybe 2-4 hours and are perfect pretty much every time.

That's the difference.

Currently only have a Wii, but I am thinking about buying a 360 and a PS3.

Basically I want all 3 for the exclusives on each. However the PS3 will primarily be used as a Blu-ray player.

I have all 3 currently for various reasons:

Wii: Got it mostly because I got caught up in the hype, it generally just sits there unless we have people over.

PS3: Wanted it for the Blu-Ray and this years exclusive lineup lured me into buying it although I don't have many games currently for it.

360: Was given to me broken for free by a friend who didn't want to have to deal with the RMA process so I sent it in to get it repaired and plan to buy most of my cross platform games for it due to most of my friends having a 360 and none having a PS3.

I got a 360 first, sadly because Geometry Wars was so much fun. Paid $400 for a $5 game 😛. I got a Wii last summer because I found one in stock, and bought it on a whim since the wife was wanting one. I knew it was a mistake, but bought it anyway. The wife played it very little, and after I purchased a new TV and moved things around, I realized that the Wii had been unplugged for almost 3 months with no want to turn it back on. So I sold it, got back what I paid for everything, and bought a PS3, that I used more in the first 2 days than I did the Wii in 4 months.

So I've owned all 3, but I'm sticking with my game machine and my blu-ray player (having Live relegates the PS3 to being a movie player 90% of the time).

I have all 3. I just got my PS3 two weeks ago. I had the PS1, PS2, then went to the orginal Xbox. I like like that so much, I bought a 360 at launch. Worked great for a year and a half, then the 8800GT's came out for the PC. I sold the first 360, and bought the video card. Later I bought an Elite 360, and got a Wii at work for cheap. I like to Fold, so I bought a PS3 to boost my Folding score and play Blue Rays. Xbox Live is worth every penny to me.

I had a PSP and did not care for it that much, so I sold it. I still have a DS, that wife plays. I also have a GBA, and original GB. My eyes cant even look at that screen now. It is so bad, I dont even let my kids see it for fear it will damage their eyes.
