You don't need to change your HTT multiplier, unless you change your HTT. As long as it's @ 200 Mhz, leave it at a 5x HTT multi.

Close... I have that board in my gaming rig but am using an Opteron 144 (heavily overclocked). Have been thinking about getting the FX, but my Opteron is already clocked past the stock FX-55 speeds and both have 1MB cache, so no benefit there. With the FX I'd be looking at likely another 100-300MHz for the money.

Since I've never had an upwards-unlocked CPU in my board, I don't have any experience with that part. Perhaps try clocking using HTT. Drop memory to 166 and HT multiplier to 4X, and start upping the HTT. Perhaps your chip just won't do 2.8GHz at default vcore? I think one person had a "dud" FX-55 that would only do around 2.7GHz stable. Most are 2.8-2.9GHz with minor voltage. A couple 3GHz and a few lucky ones can do a bit above that.

Well, if your CPU works fine at 2.6GHz, it is not a dud. Overclocking is YMMV. I had three Opteron 144 chips. Two would do 2.7GHz+ and the third (actually first I got) would only do about 2.3GHz. People around here were telling me that I must be dumb or doing something wrong, or have the "wrong" hardware. I was testing all using Corsair XMS (which is another story) and a DFI Lanparty Ultra D, and all three were tested using same setup. However, some people just couldn't bring themselves to believe that "bad" overclocks could exist.

Reading over all these recent FX-55 threads, I see one other person only able to get around 2.7GHz stable. Most are around 2.8-2.9GHz. Very few at 3GHz+. One person was at 2.9GHz running Prime and the CPU died.

I guess the "better" cores are reserved for the FX-57.

Usually FX series aren't very overclockable and with that mobo you are not very well off for overclocking either. You may be better off leaving at stock or doing a very small overclock which may hardly make any sense.

The FX chips usually are as overclockable as any other AMD chip of that speed. Also, the Biostar boards are overclockable as well. If it is the Geforce6100-939 version, it won't be super overclockable but can still overclock. If it is the Tforce6100-939, then it is nicely overclockable. My gaming rig is running an Opteron 144 at 2.7GHz.
