I am going to drive one of these tomorrow; high revving v6 with a 6-speed - sounds like fun. Any advice? What is your experience with the car?

Supposedly the quality of the new 03's are much higher, they took a year off (no 02s) to fix things...??

Yeah... they are nice.. but they lied about the specs on the 03' tib... it is a little less powered than the competition, but still a nice car for the money.

They were rated at 181 HP but not rated at 177... all the other cars in its class are 4 bangers though...

I say go for it. Maybe you'll really like it. I think the 03 Tiburon sounds like a good car, but I don't really hear much about it, so this post can double as a bump. Besides, it has kick ass looks to boot!

Yeah...because it's a freaking Hyundai (read: POS). Get a used WRX instead if you want a rally-rep.

EDIT- for example
this car.

Hyundai admitted they used a false horsepower scale for many years here. 181 Hyundai hp = 160 real hp.

They're pretty spiffy in full rally-prep, but I wouldn't have one otherwise.

My brother is pretty involved in the US rally scene and I got a chance to check out Paul Choiniere's car. Pretty sick stuff.

Alright here are some pics - this car is bad looking, if everything goes well tomorrow I may get one!

Pics

I been reading allot about the gen 1 models being crap but the new 03's get all good reviews - 170 hp is enough for me I don't drive fast.

It also comes in a coupe. Subie's QC is about 100 years ahead of Hyundai's, sorry. It's also got a good 50 hp on the Tiburon.

Black sedan.

Sorry, but this car kicks the crap out of the Tib in every respect. Even with 20k on the clock it will easily outlast the Hyundai. It's your money, I guess.....I just hate having a car that's perpetually in the shop.

A friend of mine just got one, she absolutely loves it.

She also had another Tiburon before that... unsure if it was a 99 or 00. But she's been very happy with them.

Okay fine whatever. My point is that it's a better car in most ways and can be purchased used with low miles for the same price as a new Tiburon. I didn't bother to read through the details on the ones I pulled up, OK? Sue me.

It's the only hyundai I'd buy but you should consider a Sentra SE-R Spec V as well. That V6 seems pretty inefficient to me since other cars like the spec-v are producing similar power with only 4 cylinders (better gas mileage for one thing).

I love my 2000 Tiburon. I wish the V6 model was available when I bought it.

Yesterday I noticed a 9-inch crack (from a rock, AFAIK) in the windshield. Either it's spreading extremely fast or I just didn't see it cause it's on the driver's side. The lowest estimate I've found to replace it is $270. My comprehensive deductible is $500, so I'm going to have to shell out all the money for it :(
