Who else utterly depends on their alarm clock to wake up in the morning?

I don't have a problem with getting up in the morning. I feel fine and dandy after a good 6-8 hours of sleep before I go to work. My only problem is that I depend entirely on my alarm clock to wake me up.

Every once and awhile I forget to turn the thing back on when I wake up in the morning and that invariably makes me late for work the next day. I know people who actually don't need an alarm clock to wake up. This concept boggles my mind. I can go to sleep at a perfectly reasonable hour, sleep soundly , and if my alarm clock doesn't go off because I forgot to set it, I will ALWAYS sleep 30 minutes or more late.

If the alarm clock didn't exist I would not be able to work in America because I would be fired for showing up late all the time. It's gotten to the point where I'm loath to give up my beaten up old alarm clock because it wakes me up reliably and I'm familiar with the buttons.

Who else out there NEEDS their alarm clock? Who among you feel that you could get to work on time without one? How do you do it?

I'm unemployed right now. If i didn't have an alarm clock, i'd sleep for 14-16 hours. No joke. LOL...so i depend on one.

I set three alarms daily. 2 on my cell phone, and 1 on my alarm clock.

I always wake up 2 hours before the alarm goes off then I go back to sleep. If the alarm doesn't go off, I won't wake up in time. Since the power goes off from time to time, I use my cellphone as my alarm.

I'll sleep 'till 3pm without my alarm. Although sometimes I'll wake up just before my alarm goes off, but only if I set my alarm.

Hard to say. The mere setting of my alarm clock causes me to weake up moments before it goes off. Mainly mental defense training because the damn this is so fucking annoying.

Without my alarm clock I'd be late to even more classes than I already currently am (which are always the result of me turning it off and forgetting to actually wake up).

I don't need the alarm clock to wakeup on time, but I do need it to get me out of bed on time, if that makes any sense ;)

I can instruct myself to wake up at a specified time by thinking about it before sleep, with an accuracy of a few minutes. This is provided that I get sufficient sleep. I'm not sure how it works; maybe it's my obsessive sense of time, maybe I actually wake up and check the clock unconsciously :p

I still use an alarm clock because I often don't get sufficient sleep.

I usually wake up when I'm not tired anymore, which is usually around 1:30/2pm because I don't really go to classes anymore. But if I need to wake up, there are people here that I get to wake me up. I barely ever use my alarm clock.

I often wake up 1-2 hours before my alarm goes off feeling refreshed. I don't know if I am really refreshed but I feel that way for those few moments. I roll over go back to sleep, wake up 1-2 hours later and feel like utter crap. I'll be exhausted.

Should I be waking up the first time or am I tricking myself into thinking I'm rested?

"I had trouble hitting the snooze button too much, so I decided to put the alarm clock on the other side of the room to make myself get up. But after a few days I got sick of that and just moved my bed over to the other side of the room, too."

It depends on how much sleep I get. I set two alarms on my clock for about 10 minutes apart to get myself to get up easier. Sometimes I fall back asleep as I mutter at the alarm clock, "damnit, what is making this annoying noise... oh it's you!!" as I smack the thing and end up hitting the switch.

So yeah, I pretty much depend on it.

Depends on my night before and if my job schedule has changed.

90% of the time I am awake already waiting for it to go off (music).

About 10% of the time I need it.

Yes, I depend on one. I can sleep from 6-13 hours without any interruptions, and it's rather unpredictable, too. One night, the sound of rainfall may wake me, and the next, a truck could explode outside my window and I wouldn't know it.

My mind usually tells me when I have to wake up, so after my first alarm, I nap for a few minutes, and then I wake up and turn off the 2nd alarm before it goes off...

Otherwise, if I hear no alarm, I'm out until noon.

i am late to work despite the best efforts of my boombox alarm clock. i use the most startling cd track 1 i have, led zeppelin 1 - good times, bad times, and half the time my coma is undisturbed. maybe i need an electroshock collar or something.

If i get 8 hours of sleep (give or take 30 minutes) for 3 or so days in a row, i can wake up within 5 minutes of when i decided i want to wake up the next morning. I set my alarm for when i want to wake up (i don't trust myself to wake up in time 100%), but i wake up with 5 or less minutes to go before it goes off.

However, i get less or more sleep i can not do this and it's a ***** to get up. Currently finished a night shift job and in a few days a moving to a new town 3/4 time zones over, currently looking for a better alarm clock.

I also note that if i don't have a damn good reason to get up (like going to work), i can lye in bed for 1 to 3 hours in the "almost asleep" state. If i wake up with barely enough time to put my pants on and brush my teeth (note i'm looking for a better alarm clock) i can go from fully asleep with 3 hours sleep to on the road alert and driving in 5 minutes.

I'm completely dependent on my alarm clocks. There's no way I could possibly wake up on time without one, no matter how much sleep I'm getting. Even if I've been previously caught up on sleep, I can sleep for a solid 12-18 hours. My only hope of getting up on time is with an alarm set on my alarm clock, cell phone, and sometimes my computer (and sometimes more alarms than that).
