I prefer to simply be careful with what I download. For kicks I ran the online virus scanner while I studied today, still virus free!

I have a virus scanner, but it's never caught anything. I just use it because my school provides a license for Macafee Viruscan for all affiliates. :)

I don't use one. I don't feel the need to.

If you aren't visiting questionable sites, chances are you wont have any problems unless someone hacks the sites and you get a virus that way.

Obviously something could get into my system, but I'm careful so I take my chances.

I run linux now so I never do. When I ran Windows I rarely used virus scanners, only did when I suspected a virus was causing a problem on my system

Virus scanner/guard eats up too much resources.

I'm just very careful with how I surf. It doesn't take much really just do the following:

1. Never open attachments from strangers
2. Just frequently update latest WinXP security patches and browse using Firefox.
3. Obviously don't DL and open strange .exe

I don't think I ever gotten a virus in past 2-3 years. I just PC housecall to scan everyo once in awhile.

I run one but never finds anything. I find spyware with Ad-Aware and Spy Bot. I tried to clean my niece's PC this past weekend. It has over 1,000 pieces of Ad-ware/Spyware and 68 Trojans/Virii. I eliminated about 99% of them with about 10 programs and some command line editing and file removal. If I had the original CD's (restore), it would have been easier to wipe the thing clean and start fresh. It still has several things (causing popups even with XP SP2). Quite annoying.

Anyway, I've seen too many like that to take chances and free McAfee (lifetime! ;) - not hacked either) works for me! :)

I have McAfee virusscan enterprise 8.0i. Its basically one for more buisness oriented machines so it doesn't have all the user-friendly crap that comes with most of the consumer ones. in other words I don't have to deal with windows popping up telling me "Mr. Badvirus would like to help you configure your system for virus protection click yes for the tour of your new product!"

Its free through the university
