dumb question, but did you upgrade your weapons?

months ago when i first played this i was also stuck and that was because i never switched to the higher level weapons or ammo or armor. who are you playing as?

i was a soldier at the time and ended up using my sniper rifle a lot to soften him up. then he charged and my homies took him out. use unity to bring back "dead" squad mates to life

and when you fight krogan when they first fall down they aren't dead. they are recharging. DO NOT SHOOT AT THIS TIME. when they get up, open up

I think that was my problem, I kept shooting him when he was down. Also Garrus is freaking awful. I upgraded a little, but i dont know if it would have made any difference.

What class are you? If you aren't a Soldier, you have to stay back and let Wrex tank.

Im a soldier.

after you kill the geth assign the kill organics ammo to your weapons, forgot the name

when i played this he would run to the other side of the circle thing and i used my sniper rifle to soften him up. if you have a biotic in your group and he charges then hit him with a throw or stasis and keep firing

i hated the sniper rifle in ME1 so you can put the accuracy upgrades on your assault rifle and fire at him from a distance.

ME 1 my favorite weapon is the assault rifle when playing as soldier. ME 2 is the sniper rifle

I'm not sure what the issue is, then. You don't have talents (spells) that you're not using, and Soldier is the most robust class. Immunity (under Fitness) will make you even more durable. Are your squadmates set to auto-cast their talents?

The side quests tend to be easier, so you might benefit from grinding them a little.

Do make sure all your weapons and armor, for all characters are upgraded. I played as infiltrator on ME1 and enjoyed sniper, but only once I had a ton of points in it. Until then the thing shakes like mad. In retrospect it worked out kind of nicely, requiring points to decrease the shaking of the weapon.

I played ME1/ME2 way back and since had to buy a new console so my saves are lost.

How much benefit is there replaying those before ME3? I kind of just want to jump into ME3 since I invested so much in the first two and don't want to replay them. If the game's that much cooler though I can be convinced to replay them.

I say just jump in. The game definitely imports your previous choices in a lot of interesting ways but they do such a poor job of showing how it impacts things that it almost might better not even exist. I mean, choices like saving the rachni queen from the first game has an obvious change in 3 when you meet up with her again as she is still alive. But situations like that are in the minority. Often times it's things like saving or not saving the base at the end of 2 that impacts a mission in some way that you never would have made the connection with if you had not looked it up on mass effect wiki.

It glosses over some decisions outright anyway. I let the alien council die in 1 so I could replace it with an all human council in 2. It worked, yet it's an all alien one again in 3 for no reason. Plus in the first game I made Anderson councilor and told Udina to go fuck himself. That paid off spectacularly in 2 when Anderson told Udina to get lost and he could not do anything but obey. But in 3 it's like it never happened. Anderson is still in the military. Udina is the councilor. what the fuck.

Ive had a chance to finally play ME1 for a while, and im gonna be honest, i dont think im gonna make it through this game.

As just a shooter/action game, its really not that great, and then the RPG elements are just meh. The only thing i feel like im playing this game for is the story, and im just hoping 2 and 3 are better.

I dunno, part of me says if i put time in ill eventually like it, but then i say to myself whats the point. Ive moved away from RPG's more and more in favor of games that arent as time consuming. I want a game im super excited about (like i used to be about older console RPG's), but in many ways i know its gonna make me less productive (even moreso than just quick games like BF3, MW3, and sports games).

I think the only reason why im playing is based off of others reviews. I also listen to tested.com's podcast, and theyre always talking about ME.

I bought 1 and 2, but they werent that expensive, so i dont feel as obligated to play them. Maybe some other day when im super bored, but im starting to get further into the game, and its just not enjoyable.

I would like an ACTUAL FPS game with RPG elements (like MW or BF). Are there any out there?

Keep playing for the story if you like it. ME1 is definitely the weakest link as far as gameplay goes. ME2 is a massive improvement, and ME3 refines many elements over ME2.

Well heres the thing: the story is OK so far, and im hoping it gets better. If 2 sucks, then im definitely just gonna bail on the series. If im in it for the story, theres definitely better movies/books out there. IF im in it for the action, then other games are way better.

Im gonna keep trying to blow through the story in hopes that ME2 is fun. My biggest problem is i get side tracked, and think i might miss something if i forget to talk to someone. (For example ive been making sure to talk to the blue chic or ashley, because i know my guy is gonna end up banging one of them.

I still dont know how to use many of the powers/control characters/position them/use their powers/and also havent wasted time re-equiping and all that crap.

Maybe im just getting old, and a game that is this deep and engrossing seems more of a hassle then just temporary enjoyment for me.

I finally got a chance to play portal 2 a month or so ago. It was quick and fun, and had a good story. I think this is really all i want in a game anymore. I play NHL 12 a lot with my roommate and online. We play MW and BF too.

One part of me says if i play through that ill be glad i did, but another says to just not even waste the time in the first place.

EDIT: I should point out that my perspective is of someone who played WOW for a month or two, and kinda liked it, but have absolutely no desire to play a game that is as time consuming as that.

Sounds to me like you just don't like RPGs anymore and should stick with other genres.

Well, if you find the conversations tedious, then the others aren't going to be any better...in fact they get "worse" in that regard. ME2 is all about knowing your team and their stories, which means lots of dialogue. ME3 is significantly about wrapping up secondary story/character arcs. Again, lots of dialogue.

Regardless, the combat sequences are improved in each subsequent installment.

yea thats what i was thinking, which i guess makes me happy and sad.

My best memories as a kid of playing games were playing RPG's (lunar, final fantasy, shining force, etc) I want to capture that same feeling again, but its becoming more and more apparent that i guess i grew out of that stage.

I've tried to re-play games i loved, and play newer rpg's of the same genre, and neither seems that appealing to me anymore.

On the bright side, i have a much lower chance into dumping hundreds of hours into a game where i really get nothing tangible out of it when its over. After putting 200+hours into FFX, i kinda said to myself "why?", and i think since that game i havent played any other RPG's the whole way through.

What is the most fun class?

Vanguard is a rush...if you put the difficulty way down. Otherwise you die like crazy and have to reload lots.

Pistols seem like the most fun weapon.

Melee is the best way to do kills.

So Sentinel?

I find the story of Mass Effect to be kind of boring and stupid. Especially the military pageantry which is something that Canadians seem to be big on (Battlestar Galactica, Stargate are Canadian). The characterizations are okay but not as good as Dragon Age characters.

The combat in ME2 is pretty good though. The recoil and heft in the guns is pretty well done. Melee kills especially are very satisfying. It might be my favorite 3rd person shooter.

First four hours of ME are boring. Story gets better, as does the game. ME2 is clearly the superior game in every measure, literally every one save its story which is weaker, but it's a great game and better than ME. If you're 10 hours into ME and still don't care, then I'd just stop playing and stop wasting more time on it.

No, it isn't. This issue is very controversial, I even posted a poll once which was split nearly dead-even on ME1 vs ME2. Personally I think ME2 is inferior to ME1 in nearly every measure, but obviously people don't agree on this. There's nothing "clear" about it.

I like ME1 much better than ME2, but it seems like ME2 will be a better fit for Nvidiaguy07, assuming that he doesn't give up on the series.

Im gonna try to just get through one, chances are ill like it by the end. maybe not love it, but ill prob like it. Maybe its just the whole 3rd person aspect that i dont like as well. I wasnt a huge fan of gears and games like it.

My ideal game would be: combat just like MW3, and character progression designed by squaresoft. Lots of end game content and replay value.

Just take MW3, add stats like HP, give guns stats and abilities, little more strategy, etc. and maybe a longer story.

Have you played Borderlands? It's something like that.

Yes, it clearly is. Nostalgia corrupts memories. The game play of ME2 is far superior. I simply won't entertain anybody's opinion to the contrary; they're wrong. I bet if you took people who played ME1 and 2 back to back, both for the first time without a long time lapse between them (forgetting the annoying parts of ME1), as I did, you'd find a wildly different poll result.

Everything from frame rates to load times to menus to cut scene skipping, all is better in ME2. ME1 was clunky and felt old. ME2 was polished. Its story was certainly weaker, but in every technical area it shined. OK, planet scanning was stupid and just boring, but only a small part of the game.

so far i've noticed that on ME2 there was hardly any ammo around and you had to be careful in your firing. in ME3 there is ammo everywhere. too much of it

It's been a while, but are the cutscenes in ME2 choppy like they are in ME3? I won't go into detail on why it's BULLSHIT that the cutscenes are choppy to begin with (it's fucking 2012, people).

gave up last night. The auto save feature is what did me in.

Countless times i had to replay the same part. the worst was when i actually took the time to re-equip my squad and all that BS, only to find out when i died, all of it when away. Thered be times when id ay to myself, o crap this might be tough so i better save, and then i cant because the fight started already.

Ordered borderlands off amazon last night, gonna give that a shot. Kinda pissed i didnt buy it on steam a few weeks ago when it was on sale.

Anyone know why they dont have the mac+pc option available for borderlands? Or why steam doesnt have it at all on mac anyway?
