It supposedly wipes the floor with the 7800GTX 512's... mite have 32 pipes... didn't run into the same trouble the X1800XT did... and is supposedly cheaper to make. Spent a lot of time anticipating the 512s but with the current prices... bring on the R580!

it will not be 32 pipes, probably will be 16, maybe 24, but ATI's problem is paperlaunching... you cant buy their cards for months after they announce them

My guess is; it will be paper launched, and then delayed and then overpriced and then in limited supply and then still get it's ass handed to it..

Why wait in a forever-loop when you can get a GTX right now. The GTX256 is plenty of card and priced at around $450. Heck you can get a GT at under $300.

The future is here now and it's the 7800

I doubt ATI will paper launch the R580s. Crossfire was some tricky business so delays should have been expected. ATI just ran into some plain badluck with the R520s. Paper launching won't remain a trend for ATI simply bcuz... no company will actively try to keep a rep like the one ATI currently has.

If it wipes the floor with my SLI rig and it launches (with availability) in Jan 2006 you won't need a thread to bring the hype. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

afaik the r580 production is in time and sees no delays. early 2006 mite be a possible release date. i bet my left eye that the next launch will be better than the x1k launch. and if not...who cares, its just graphic cards ;)

I look foward to the days when the CPU gets so powerfull that it doesn't need dedicated hardware to render 3d images.

Rumors are 16 'pipes' but 48 pixel shaders. See the X1600XT for a similar setup (4pipes 12 pshaders)

You mean you can't buy them until the date they announce you'll be able to buy them on?
