As soon as these things come out in reliable form, I am ready to switch from Intel to AMD64.

Then the question becomes, should I also wait until March for R520?
 
You keep waiting and I will enjoy my 939 board in the meantime....(at hopefully 2.6 ghz, coming this week)
 
I was going to wait but really its stupid to wait considering there is ALWAYS something new coming soon.

Just buy for your needs now and upgrade as needed in 6-12 months. I tailored my purchases around the possibility of upgrading in 6 mo to a better mobo.

When March rolls around, you may as well wait until August for the next great thing. But then again, if you are going to wait until August, you may as well wait until November...

I am waiting for SLI motherboards to roll around before I make my next upgrade. And they are taking too long to come out, and its forcing me to keep playing all these new games on my sh*tty video card because I can't upgrade to SLI since its not released yet 🙁

I am waiting for either the DFI or Asus SLI mobo's
 
S939 and pciex (like nforce 4 ) are good already and should probably lst longer...eg. few new AMD CPUs and for sure R500....so..if you biuy S939/pcieex NOW...you STILL can get a R500/R530 later !
 
I'm planning on building a new computor with an nforce 3 s939, a 90nm 3500+ and a 6800 gt this week.I need to build a new rig if I want to play half-life 2.
No waitimg for me.
 
I'm holding out to upgrade (mobo/cpu) at all for a game that is unplayable with the fastest AGP card available in my current system. At that time, I'll get the best platform available that I can afford. I'm sure that by then it'll be PCI-e and Socket 939 and hopefully NV will be making standalone SS cards.
 
Yeah. I have been holding up for the PCIe. It doesn't look like it will make alot of difference at first. Since it's coming I figure I'll do all of the upgrades at once. Computer #7!
 
I'm waiting to see how SLI takes off also. Meanwhile my system is fast enough right now. The big question for me is whether to go all out and get a Dual Opteron SLI system.

the main thing to keep in mind is that a decent system: a64 3000 and above, 1 gig ram, and 6800gt or ultra or x800xt or xt-pe can run any game out right now, including half life 2 and doom 3 at 1600x1200 everything turned right up, 4xaa, 8xaf and vsync on. FPS games are the most system stressful out there. And its a safe bet that most of the new fps games coming out over the next year that you will want to own will be based on the d3, or source engine. So SLI really is only going to be usefull if for some reason you feel the need to run at 1600x1200 with 8xaa and 16xaf, why I don't know 😕 as at 1600x1200 , aa doesn't seem to make much of an impact. But I'm sure for some people this does matter 🙂. I guess when quake 4 is out next year, I may not be able to get aa on it too, but I think I can live with 1600x1200 high quality and 8xaf on quake 4. I doubt I'll miss aa too much :roll:
 
i'm waiting for 2nd gen PCIe. Mainly because my nforce2 will do quite well for me for much much longer... as I don't use it for other than basic work. I could use dual LCD's and dual layer burners before anything else... and to quiet down my system.
 
I'm waiting for a nice proven dual PCIe mobo, then I may upgrade, though I don't need anymore power quite yet...probably Q1 next year.
 
Do not base your purchase on what RealityTime said above. Engines get pushed much further later on. Just look at benches for Quake3 vs. Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Last I checked Quake3 is over 500fps and RTCW isn't even close. Same engine.

If Quake 4 will be an action game instead of horror, I can only imagine how low the framerate will go.
 
I am still doing fine with my NF2 and overclocked mobile athlon @ 2400 that cost me $180 two years ago. It's still high end. With a 9800Pro I can play all the latest games at high settings. No reason for me to upgrade until there is a good, stable NF4 mobo with PCIe, DDR-2 and possibly even the next generation of PCIe video cards.
There is just no compelling reason to upgrade for NF-2 right now. Gains/price ratio is poor at best.
 
im gunna wait for the nforce 4 chipset to come out so then the prices on the nf3 boards will come down hopefully 😀
