Not a new build really, just replaced the mobo, copu and ram. I was torn between getting an X2 or the conroe. I went for the low end intel solution and got a E6300, an Intel D965LT motherboard, and some Kingston DDR2 value ram. No overclocking although I do some light gaming. I really spend more time encoding. The benchmarks are still unreal.
Also, I can actually hear my hard drive now. I've already opened the case twice to verify the fan was spinning on the cpu. This is with the stock heatsink/fan. Nice setup but the retention mechanism leaves a lot to be desired. I will reload F.E.A.R. this weekend and see how loud it gets after an hour of playing.
So at least the upgrade bug is now gone. That is at least until DX10 and I need to replace the 7800GT video card... or get a faster cpu.
EDIT: and steam reported that my machine did not meet the requirements for half-life 2:lost coast since it was only a 1.9ghz machine.
