Maetryx here,

Hi. My name is Maetryx. I am an Assistant Manager [applause, congrats go here].

I don't even know where to start. My boss inspired me to write this thread with his following traits:

Incompetence
Vagueness
Ability to consistently choose the wrong battles to fight
Purposeful ignorance
No concern for burning down a relationship with a business partner
Everyone in other departments can hardly stand to talk to him
Totally out of touch with the rank and file
Defense of the status quo regardless of how wrong it is....

And more. I'm going to lunch. I'll check in and bump this after lunch.

Assistant Manager means = I do twice the work and get paid half as much as the GM.

Yay!

The first trait I mentioned is incompetence, so it is only fair that I give some examples.

Now granted, credentials aren't the same as competence but I would like to state for the record (ether?) that my credentials slam dunk his all day long. The position he occupies requires a civil engineer or related degree or experience. His degree is in business. As a result, I have to remind him what a 3 to 1 slope is virtually every time we discuss it (a lot in turns out) and explain to him that 5% of the LEL is not 5% of the total volume.

Today he wrote an email where he stated that if the test results for asbestos come back as zero, that will ELEVATE our concerns (the opposite should be true). I finally realized that he meant ALLEVIATE our concerns.

Also, he has his special voice for teaching valuable business lessons to me. He uses it on me and others when he wants to educate us. He slows his talking down like he's talking to kindergartners and em-pha-siz-es his syllables. He often does this when pointing out for the 6th time the difference between regulations and policy. Someday I'll have to tell him that I was a grownup when I got here two years ago. In my thirties even.

When I write a techincal document, he has to review it before it can be used. So I submit a copy. Then he calls me over to his office to talk about it. Then, while I'm sitting across from him, HE BEGINS TO READ IT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. And he mumbles it as he reads it as a big melodramatic pantomime that he's doing some speed reading. Then when we talk about it he uses his special voice. He acts out the role of joe blow reading the document as if he somehow relates to the general public. But he assumes everyone is stupid and that I need to dumb down the document.

I'll tell you what: if he understands it, then by God it's ready for the elementary school newsletter.

I did not eat lunch at Quizno's today. I ate at a Chinese takeout called Bamboo Panda. Interesting though. You know where I am? You might be thinking I'm in Portland, Oregon because I came down there in '02 and ate pizza with FFMCobalt, EyeCandy, ViperGTS, Narzy and NeoPTLD. But I was visiting.
