A few ladies here at work are total bmw whores. It's bmw or nothing. If one gets a newer better model the other must get an even better one.

And none of them will drive it in any way that will see any advantages over a Corolla and they will never appreciate the car, they will just polish the BMW emblems until they wear out... :|

so the purse syndrome is now spreading to cars.

i always wonder when i see older women in M5s and AMGs whether they appreciate the ridiculous performance or if they bought it merely because it's the most expensive one on the lot.

i also have to wonder whether any of them got the M5, then thought it's ride was representative of all BMWs rides', and decided merc was a better cruiser.

Well, tried 3 GM's in a row with subpar results so I've tried 3 Dodge's in a row now with good success (and pricing too). I'm tempted by the new GM crossovers (Acadia and Saturn Outlook) though.

I don't care what it is as long as I "like" it and it drives well and relatively repair free.

Well not making it physically look like one, but just going off the fact that a R32 already looks a lot like a normal sedan (since Skyline GT-R was always based off a sedan chassis). You just remove the special styling and put on something from a Skyline GXi or something like that.

Those ricers don't know squat anyway, they will see "Skyline" and automatically assume you have 1000+ HP and won't want to race heh.

That's why you gotta replace 'em with a Buick symbol or something.... Although maybe the round tail lights will confuse them 😛.

Oh, they do. One time when I was with my brother in his old crappy 1990 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, some kid in a fart-can Honda Civic with a spray-painted black hood rolls up to the red (I think that's proper street lingo, yo). I think one of us looked over at him or something and he took it as a race 😕.

I think I've even had people in normal cars try and race my Altima for some weird reason.

Yeah, wish I had my camera with me the other day. Walking through the parking lot at the mall the other day I spot a 2nd gen Integra with crappy paint, blacked out alloys, and no hood.

So being curious I peep my head over and see a red valve cover, and a CAI. This piqued my interest until I got around the corner completely and noticed that the valve cover had been spray painted red, and the "CAI" was some sort of homemade contraption over a generic K&N filter to either make it louder or keep rain out; looked like a "modified" milk jug.

Anyways, I was kind of thinking that people had started to learn their lesson with regards to homemade poorly done rice, but in actuality it might be getting worse.

I won't buy a GM or Chrysler/Dodge (in all honestly there might be one or two vehicles that these manufacturers make that I would consider buying but that's it). I also wouldn't buy a Hyundai. I don't think I'd buy a current Volvo or Jaguar either. I'm not hot on Mazda either...with the exception of the Miata.

Everything else is worth at least considering.

I'm partial to Nissan/Infiniti, but I would certainly consider owning other vehicles. I don't lease and I don't buy brand new because depreciation, resale, and reliability are most important to me.

Having said that, I would feel much easier about buying a Toyota/Honda/Nissan/Subaru (in that order) versus anything else out there.

I've owned one Toyota, one Honda, three Infinitis, and two GMs (my first two cars)

I never have understood the whole "I'm a Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Toyota/Euro-guy" nonsense. Why would anyone marry themselves to one particular brand, and feel the need to stick with it through thick and thin?

You paid them for their vehicle. Why do you owe them your loyalty? Screw that. They might EARN my loyalty by selling me a vehicle that I feel gives me more for my money than another brand might. But even then, I'm always a free agent.

Example: Dodge trucks have always been ugly to me, particularly since the big Ram redesign years ago. But if they managed to make something that looked good to me and I felt I'd have few problems with, I'd consider buying one.

About the only bias I might have is towards the foreign, particularly the Asian cars. I prefer to buy American. Unless the American trucks become utter crap, and the Asian trucks get on par (or better) with the domestics, that's a switch I'll never make.

The same reason that people will cheer for a particular sports team. It's an easy way of belonging to a "community" and to feel better about themselves by de-valuing the alternatives.

They're crazy? I've owned Ford, GM, Swedish cars, German cars and Japanese cars over the years. I also worked in the rental car industry for a number of years so I've developed a pretty strong bias against many of the cheap crappy American cars I've had experience with over the years, which is why I'll never buy a Dodge/Chrysler or a GM vehicle.

I happen to own a Nissan and a Lexus at the moment. My next car might very well be a British car with a Toyota engine though. 😉

I think Japanese cars are in general a great deal for the money that's what I have owned so far, however I have been test driving German cars that belong to people I know, and I know for sure my next car will most probably if not definitely be a BMW, I just appreciate good engineering and attention to detail. In addition to that since I was kid I have always been eying BMW's latest creations with admiration they have the power, the high level of engineering and not to forget quality and heritage. But that's my favorite brand to get, in general, I think I would enjoy driving Swedish cars too in addition to the great selection of German cars already available in the US.
British cars around here for the exception of Lotus look boring, too flashy, more expensive than they deserve, this not to say they are bad, but I don't find them interesting.

I will certainly not own an American car too unless I really had no option.
IMHO I think American cars are over American and in most situations except for the oldies are of cheap quality and short lifetime.
American designers design cars with your average American dude taste and don't think about anything special besides that, the number of American cars over the years that I found kind of cool I can count on my fingers.

I think Pontiac might be the only domestic company that made good enough models as of late to make me visit their site and checkout what else they have. Take the Pontiac GTO for instance. I was like this is really cool butt loads of HP not too expensive of a price, well it was designed to look like Holden cars but that's fine I liked it, but I think they discontinued the GTO and I was like just when things started getting interesting 🙁

So in general German and Japanese cars are the way to go 😀

Actually, it is a Holden car.

What I find funny is
Only japanese cars are 'good' but they used to be total sh1t
Now that American cars are good 'again' for the most part its I'll never own an American car even though they are worthy of consideration.
Lets see the article pointing out the top 3 recalled manufacturers so far ot 07 toyo, VW and Honda. Not that I use that as a benchmark of any kind but its ironic that Jap fanboi's all downplay it like oh don't worry just a glitch but if it was NA it would be seeeeee told you they were crap:roll:
Same with Korean vehicles, I'll seriously consider a diesel SUV if they bring one to NA like some of the articles intone, where 5 yrs ago, no way. I'll take a look at ANY vehicle if the price is right for what I expect out of it.

like with music, races, foods....people are just ignorant.

Things I hate I have experienced. Those things I don't expect everyone to hate because I do.

might as well get the ariel atom now that they're producing it stateside 😛

I just like having something unique or not common. I would take a car with slightly less performance in the same class if it was not the common car. For example, I got a GTO instead of a Mustang since I see many of those on the road. The same thing when I got my Mazdaspeed Protege. I could have went with a SVT Focus or Sentra Spec-V. If I had a lot of money, I would probably get a lesser known exoctic car than the common Prosche or Ferrari of the time.

I won't own or drive a GM vehicle. The bodies are made of popsicle sticks, the engine of recycled cardboard, the interior of paper mache, and the electronics of silly string.

Because a Hyundai is actually Korean? which would make it by default of not being JAPAN, not Japanese. . .

Especially the burnt orange ones. What kind of assmonkey would buy one (or two) of those POSs?

They get their color from the orange popsicles that were on the sticks.
