Every few years or so I try to find out who else here is from Iowa.

What do you do? I have a full-time job but wish I was travelling and running a business.

I'm in Dixon, IL, which is about an hour away. Close enough that we get to share your total lack of sustainable employment, entertainment, and high culture.

I've lived in Ottumwa, Creston and Marshalltown. Moved from Ottumwa to Daytona Beach. But I've spent lots of time there. I miss maid rite and taco john's. Culver's in the northern part of the state is also missed. :)

I work for a medical software company doing tech support.

Every so often we visit my wife's sister who lives in Bettendorf. Haven't been there for a while though.

When I'm at home can walk a couple blocks and see Iowa across the river so I'm plenty close.

I can be in Iowa in about eight minutes when I'm at home. It's more like twenty minutes when I'm at work.

I don't think Iowa is quite that bad.

I just got back from spending 2 days in Des Moines on a business trip. I had no idea an entire city could shut down after 5:30 PM. The streets were literally deserted and I was afraid that zombies or pabsters would appear from some highway overpass. My flight got delayed 2 hours, I almost went crazy from waiting in the Des Moines airport lounge.

Then you would have certainly died if you would have visited my hoppin' town of less than 8,000 residents.

I did about 5 years in Dubuque, and another 5 in the Iowa City area. I'd move back to the IC area in a heartbeat if my wife would be satisfied with the work environment that UIMC provided.

Iowa City is a great town. Fun, friendly, safe, and energetic.
