Who else has Charter communications as their cable provider?

Have you ever noticed the people in your area are complete idiots about what services they offer, and such?

I called my local office and asked to order the NHL Center Ice package, and the lady told me:

"I've never heard of that package... I don't think we've ever had anything like that before." 😕

So I call the "district office" or whatever you'd like to call it, and asked the lady there... told her what the idiot here said, and she signed me right up, asked for the ladies name at our local office, and even offered to split the cost up into 4 payments.

this has happened on many occasions, once I was told that they don't offer 1.5MB cable with their digital cable. You had to get one or the other, or digi + slow cable.

Is it just around here, or is all of Charter inept?

WHO'S WORSE? SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION OR CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS? I can't decide! Everyone I know who has charter doesn't like them. When we moved to our house two months back they had not laid cable on our street yet. I spent time and 4+ phonecalls trying MADLY to get SOMEBODY to tell me when the HELL they were going to cable our street. I threatened that I'd get satellite. Nobody could tell me. I now have satellite as do most of the people on my street. Well last week they laid the cable and now we have notices in the mail offering new cable packages. MORONS: you waited so long we all have freaking satellite now! I spoke to a neighbor who had gone thruogh the same thing - we were all willing to wait, but since charter could not give us a timetable at all we decided we'd cut our losses and get satellite. If charter had of a) cabled the street before all the houses went up (only about 4 remain to be moved into now), or b) given us a time table, they'd not have totally destroyed their chances on our street. As it is most of the service they'll offer now will be broadband, since we all have satellite. Silly fvckers!

It's gonna take them hellalong to recoup the money they spent contracting that work out for the cable laying.

I now heard that much of Charter's east coast service is being taken over by Atlantic Broadband. This is only good news I would think, it can't get much worse with these idiots.

Charter to sell some cable assets
For $765 million, cable television provider Charter Communications says it will sell cable television systems serving some 235,000 customers in six states to Atlantic Broadband.

Charter Communications said it would sell cable television systems that serve some 235,000 customers in six states to Atlantic Broadband for about $765 million in cash.

The deal, announced Wednesday, involves systems that serve Miami Beach, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New York and West Virginia, and includes approximately 79,000 digital and 33,000 high-speed data customers, the company said.

"Proceeds from this cash sale will be used to repay bank debt and fund future capital expenditures," Charter CEO Carl Vogel said in a statement.

The sale comes as Charter, the third-largest cable television provider in the United States behind Cox Communications and AOL Time Warner, seeks to put a long list of troubles behind it. The company has been stung by declining cable television enrollment, some $19 billion in debt and a federal investigation into alleged accounting fraud.

Charter has been selling off nonstrategic assets to address its debt load, having previously announced the sale of a system in Port Orchard, Wash., for $91 million. In August, the company abandoned plans to refinance $1.7 billion in debt, citing market conditions. Charter reported about 6.54 million customers as of June 30, 2003, down from 6.78 million a year earlier. Its broadband unit has been growing, however, adding nearly 500,000 new subscribers over the same period, from 870,000 to 1.38 million.

The company has blamed overall subscriber declines on competition with satellite TV and also new customer disconnect policies.

Charter has also been dogged by legal troubles, with a federal grand jury in July indicting four former top executives on charges that they defrauded investors by inflating revenue and customer numbers.

Charter, founded in 1993 to provide cable television access, employs 16,700 people and is headquartered in St. Louis, Mo. Its chairman is Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

I have charter cable.

I get premium digital cable and 768Kbps download for $85.85 after taxes.

So far so good, I pay, they give me TV and internet.

It isn't really Charter's prices I have an issue with. It's their lack of competent employees and horrific customer service. I mean come on, never heard of NHL center ice? I know damn well I am not the only person in this city to call and ask about ordering it. And before, they told me "1.5 MB cable is not available with the digital cable service. We offer (at the time) 256k cable with our digital cable packages. If you subscribe to digital cable the higher speeds are not available." That's a crock of sh!t. I have placed so many calls to the Johnstown office complaining about these toolboxes it isn't even funny. I may look into DirecTV.

I kinda like and hate charter. We were the first on our street to get cable internet. I called up to ask when it was coming and they sent a guy out who thought I was having trouble with our tv and I told him we just wanted the internet and he was like "oh, well its not supposed to be available yet for you guys, but what the hell" and he gave us the quick start kit 😀 He then checked the channels and didnt like the tint of the color and went out and messed with the cable box and left us with full hook up until the next day when he could come back and fix it. Its been 3 years 😀 We pay $9.95 for tv and $29.95 for internet, so I'm pretty happy, but their service sucks. Tech support is a joke.

In Texas and have Charter.

Planning on getting rid of them ASAP and snag DSL and DirectTV.

Bad price vs. goods recieved and our internet connection is very, very unstable at times.

I had Charter, they really sucked...

What killed me the most was when they overbilled me, called nightly to demand payment, I finally paid so I wouldn't lose service, got Direct TV & Dish, and DSL, cancelled my Charter account, and they didn't want to pay me back the overage, even after they admitted they overcharged me by $80.

I went ballistic, their argument was "When you overpay, it becomes a credit & it really isn't money."

They paid me back the overage after a week of me calling every night, demanding my $ back:evil:

My Charter service is ok.
Only had trouble with the tv service twice.
Once was when I lost all my digital channels.
When I called them, they were able to fix it over the phone in less than 5 minutes.
The second time was when our cable box went out.
That time, I had to wait a full week before they could come out and replace it.

My internet service has had quite a few problems.
Had some ongoing issues with extremely high pings. About 5 or 6 different days, I had average pings of 400 to every server.
Turns out it was an issue with some AT&T routers.
The first guy was really rude and said "if it's an AT&T problem, we are certainly not going to be responsible for solving it."
I told him that my service and contract were with Charter, NOT AT&T and they damn well better get it taken care of.
Took about 3 days before it was fixed. Then it happened again 2 weeks later.
Took another 2 days to get it fixed then.

I have charter for cable internet and service, and they do all right. Overall I like then and would go with them again. Service is cheap, or at least the same price, customer service is good, but not stellar, and the packages they offer are exactly what I want... I am inRiverside, Ca... it that helps anything...

Had Charter for a year and when I moved to my new house I got satellite. Charter sucks donkey balls and has the worst employees and technology EVER!

In the process of getting internet service from charter the wonderful employees managed to sign me up for 7 accounts. Every time I called about an initial setup problem, apparently the employee just created a new account. After 5 phone calls, each which always promised things would be working 30 minutes after hanging up, they finally sent someone out. His final conclusion was that they had never bothered to remove a filter on the cable line, although the charter employees were swearing up and down that my house was ready and they had no idea why the cable modem wouldn't sync.

But other than the fact that I believe the vast majority of charter employees are complete morons, the service was acceptable for the 3 months I needed it.

Charter Comm here too.

Mail sux ass with my CharterMi (Charter Michigan?) mail... VERY VERY slow.

Have had two problems with billing one of which ended up in my service being cut off even though the bill was paid in full. I have had various outages ranging from a few minutes up to days. No real complaints with the cable service.

Charter Comm is one of Paul Allens assets if I remember correctly... Kinda funny how it has been mentioned that another company is taking over the east coast operations... Also Tech TV is being sold off... Is Paul running out of money?

Paul Allen The a$$hole behind Charter...

In the years I had Charter one thing I noticed, after nearly a dozen billing problems, every error was in thier favor & took me weeks to straighten out.

I've got Charter, but not for long... I was originally on @home and when they got bought out by Charter I was "grandfathered" in so I was getting 1mbit down/128kbit up. Last week Charter dropped my speed to 768k down/128up, without telling me! :|:| That's the last straw! I'm paying out the ass for my connection when SBC DSL offers double the speed for the same monthly price! With my Internet and analog cable, I'm actually paying MORE per month than my parents, who have digital cable and the same Internet package. 😛 This sucks...

When my sister moved out of her apartment last year, she dropped off her cable box at the local office nearby. On her next bill was a charge for over $250, for not returning the box! :|

Goodbye Charter, hello DirecTV and DSL!

Dave

Charter here, in Michigan.

The broadband sucks. We have the slowest cable since they raised their prices a while ago. It used to be very unreliable too. No problems now, but I hate them still. The prices are a ripoff for what you get and the people working are the biggest morons to ever deal with.
