You know, when someone accidently calls you from their cell phone completely unaware that they just dialed you. I guess I get to be the lucky recipient of a quite a few of these by having the first name Adam. Puts me near the top of contact lists. Just received my second one in two weeks. It's kinda interesting hearing some peoples conversations with family and friends and then hearing the "oh sh..." before the call ends.

Not as much as it used to....the days before touch screen locks.

My first name is Andrew, which apparently puts me at the top of some contact lists. I get a few pocket dials a year.

I've yet to pocketdial someone, how does one get their phone to unlock and then dial from within their pocket?

I've only been pocket dialed once, at my old job. We got a lot of calls every day and this was the only time it happened. Seems that 99% of these calls are from people who can't figure out how to lock the keypad on their Crapberries.

My first cell phone used to ring by itself. Somehow jostling it in my backpack would set off the ringer volume control. Always seemed to do it when I was in class or in the library. Those things didn't have a lock. God I'm glad I don't have a dumb phone anymore.

apparently it's a big problem for emergency services.

I used to pocket dial 911 with my old phone all the time. I would lock the phone, but even when it's locked it would dial 911 as long as you pressed 9-1-1. It wouldn't even matter if you pressed other numbers in between. Pressing 4-6-2-9-2-7-8-1-6-3-2-6-8-9-1 on the lock screen would dial 911.

What a great "feature"

My friend did this by accident and he left a 5 minute voicemail of him singing to miley cyrus while driving his car. So. Good.

If I use my lockscreen, I will stop receiving pocket-dials?

Brilliant!

The funny thing is, is that with my iphone, if I receive a call, it will automatically return the phone to a locked state after the call ends. If I initiate the call, it goes back to the contact screen or wherever you dialed from.

Because, I receive a lot more than I initiate, the few times that I do make a call, I forget that the phone didn't lock and I've pocket dialed people that way.

My little cousin used to do it by grabbing her dad's phone. I guess having a name that starts with an "A" will do that. Lately my aunt has been too, but it has tapered off, so maybe she learned to lock the screen.

As everyone else have mentioned, this is not so prevalent in the days of smartphone. But back in the late 90s I have a friend with a name started with 'Ade..". She's pretty popular so she's got a lot of friends and because of the name she's #1 in a ton of people's contact list. She used to receive pocket dials almost every day.

My name starts with a "J", but my cousin-in-law and my father-in-law butt call me often, my FIL at least once a week.

CIL: Blackberry
MIL: iPhone 3GS

I am not aware of me butt calling anyone (iPhone 4).
