Good gawd how could someone hire him to be a commentator?? This guy is a complete jackass. Hell, Chris Webber ripped him a new one during half time too :)

Walton was a good player, but he was a whiner and a motor mouth even then. He does need to shut up. It's incredible how simply being an ex-player who can more or less form a sentence automatically makes you a candidate to be a TV analyst.

I hate Bill Walton's commentary. Earlier in the year he said something along the lines, about Michael Jordan, of this: "Now Michael Jordan missed that free throw, he could have hit it if he wanted to, just further evidence that this guy can turn it on and off whenever he wants to."

What?

LOL, Classic Walton!! He was even worse tonight...he said something along these lines:

Marv: "That was a BIG shot from Webber."
Walton: "It's too early in the game to call that a big shot as we still have 10 mins to go in the first quarter; it was an ENORMOUS shot!"

WTF???!!!!!!

I am not a Walton fan, but he's been OK in this game. I can't stand how he hypes every play, and keeps changing his mind 20 times a game. Steve "Crapper" Jones that just plain sucks out loud.

As lousy as Walton is, you might have to get used to him.

For some inapparents reasons, he's considered an excellent commentator, and is one of the leading candidates for the top play-by-play job for cable NBA broadcasts beginning next year. NBC decided not to renew their contract, and other cable networks decided to jump in. I believe HBO might be one of the participants (including Turner networks and maybe ESPN).

ABC has the contract next year. ABC on the weekends like NBC now, and ESPN showing weekday games like TBS does now. TNT will still show games too. I think Walton will get picked up by ABC, but as long as they don't pick up Steve "Crapper" Jones, I'm OK. The verbal diarrhea that guy throws out is amazing.

I'll admit that sometimes he makes some interesting commentary and a good call on a play, but when he gets excited he can't control himself. Listening to him talk, you'd think he busts a nut every time Shaq scores. I like Steve Jones' personality more but he says some stupid stuff as well while arguing with Walton.

The problem is when walton and jones are together. it's like NBC tells them they HAVE TO disagree with each other. it's always:

Walton: Wow Steve, what a MARVELOUS day in Los Angeles today, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping. This is the BEST day in the history of the WORLD>

Crapper Jones: Oh come on Bill, this it is OBVIOULSY raining outside. How can you POSSIBLY think this is a nice day?

i like him better than bob costas that's for sure.

I think the best team was Marv Albert and Doug Collins, till Collins went to go coach again.

So true, I was just talking to my brother about this. IIRC, they started with Walton as the lone color commentator, and brought in Snapper to balance him out. When Walton says something so unbelieveable that you can't believe he uttered it, it's Snapper's job to call him on it, and effectively call him an idiot in front of millions of people. Walton will come back with some lame defense, and that's the end of it. Some NBC suits somewhere think this is "good chemistry". Walton just kind of moved up the ladder by default when people resigned, and ended up on the #1 announce team.

And yes, from one of Rudy Martzke's USA Today columns in the last 2 weeks, Walton is the clear favorite to take the lead color commentator spot with ABC/ESPN. Uuuuugggghhhhhhhhh...........
