Who drives and did NOT take Driver's Ed?

taking drivers ed doesnt make you a good driver. it just makes your insurance lower until you are 25. i didnt take drivers ed, and ive never had anything go wrong, wrecks or anything.

some people are just good drivers and some arent, i dont think that changes. no offense to most women, but they just arent good drivers. there is 2 differences with guys and girls. guys are harder on the car, and dumb, but if we really want to do a good job, we can. girls on the other hand...dont have much mechanical comprehensivness...so they dont understand SLAMMING on the breaks isnt good for the car. guys will probably have a few more wrecks, but just out of sheer stupidity, not because they are bad drivers. i feel myself getting dissed a bunch of this. but ive always wanted to have this debate, so dont take this the wrong way anyone
 
took it so i could have my license 🙂 It really didn't do anything for me, didn't learn anything new. i just got to drive a crappy tercel for 6hrs... flooring it trying to climb uphill 🙂
 
Mandatory in OH for anything if you are under 18. I took driver's ed for my auto license and it was so incredibly stupid and banal ("This is what a dipstick looks like, it's a good idea to check this if the little red light that looks like a genie bottle comes on on the dash.&quot😉. When I fainlly break my cycle of driving my motorcycle on temps for 6 months at a time I will get the license for it without taking the Motorcycle Safety Course that is required for those poor blighters under 18. I ride with some very experienced bikers for the most part and they can teach me more than any stupid class.

Never took drivers ed. And although I do have a few tickets under my belt, I'm a much better driver than most of the people I know. Not that it's a huge deal, but I can climb into any car/van/truck/whatever and drive away. Stick or auto. Also towed a few times. Seems to me that drivers ed gives people a false sense of ability. JMO. The only real 'drivers ed' is getting behind the wheel and driving. And I've driven more miles in reverse than you've gone in drive!
 
Would it be considered "not taking it" if I slept through the class? I only knew how to drive because I was doing it two years before I slept through it in high school, and I haven't run over anyone yet.🙂
 
Nope didnt take drivers ed.

I did take the Motorcycle Rider training so I could bypass the DMV driving test.

Other than that I have done Formula 3 and Rally Class training. That was on my own time. I didnt need it but I wanted to do it so I could go offroad rallying.
 
Had to take some 5 hour course in order to get my license here in NY. Pretty boring, as you can imagine, and they give you some test at the end that anyone could pass without even attending the course.
 
It SHOULD be mandatory and at least as much money spent on it as is wasted on sports!

Btw, HOW in hell can you claim to be a 'Good Driver' if you do not know the laws regarding driving?...or did you memorize them?

Regardless of whether or not you take Driver's Ed, you still have to pass a written and driving test to get your license.

The written test is all about the laws of driving, and as for the driving test... I was driving (on nearly deserted roads) long before I even got my permit.

Driver's Ed would have been a complete waste of time, but I was prepared to take it anyway. My dad didn't care one way or the other, so I had no problem with that. 😛

I've never seen a written test given by the state that any dim witted moron could not pass! 99% of the laws are not in the test! Then they are multiple choice for cryin out loud! The actual driving test is almost as bad...

BTW, I drive over 150,000 miles a year...dodgeing those that THINK they know how to drive and watching as those same drivers get hauled off in a meat wagon....:|

it doesn't take a genius to pass driver's ed, either.

Driver's Ed doesn't make people more responsible drivers, it's more reflective of your attitude and your wits than anything, IMO.
 
i took driver's ed at home... the place i went to said "as long as you pass all the written tests we have we'll consider you passing driver's ed"

then i had to take my six hours in the car.

no accidents, no tickets, never even pulled over. I'm good. 😉
 
It is a waste of time just to go there and back but hey, it frees parents' times and frustrations and there is that 10% discount off insurance.

That is when I learned to drive generally. But I learned stick from my dad. 🙂
 
I also think it should be mandatory in every state that you must take Drivers Education and pass it before you can get your license to drive.

All I did was drive around for about a year without a learner's permit, license or even insurance ... that is of course until I got pulled over and was written a whopping $480 ticket for those violations. Thankfully that was years ago before Oregon began taking your car away if you didn't have insurance. Guess what? When I appeared in traffic court 30 days later I had my permit then license and insurance all ready for the judge he knocked the ticket down to $70. I cursed and swore at myself for 3 years because I had file a fscking SR-22 which reaked havoc on my insurance rates.

My driving record has been clean as a whistle ever since then and no I didn't take driver's ed. I learned by experience, drove 33,000 miles EVERYWHERE in 10 months. You wouldn't believe how quickly you can rack up those miles driving almost every day from Gresham to Beaverton and every other weekend from Portland to the Pacific Ocean. Boy those were wild teenage years now I'm old and frail (26).
 
It's mandatory to take drivers ed in Michigan. Lucky I took it before they passed this new law. Now they have like two or three levels of drivers ed. You take it once, wait a few weeks or months, and take it again.
 
I took it and it didn't help much in my opinion.
I think it was a waste of time for me. My parents taught me how to drive more than the drivers ed. guy ever did. 🙂
