Who does some spam I get have random strains of alphanumeric characters?

what is that supposed to be? They're never really the same.
 

It's a secret Microsoft tracking number. I'm not sure why, but apparently Bill Gates is going to send you money if you forward it to your friends.

I was thinking that it keeps spam blocking software (at the ISP/mail server level) from deleting a bunch of messages with the same subject line.

Damn, one useful response in six. I guess that makes sense. Damn them, I swear to god, I am going to murder all these spammers one of these days. I think I get the same messages six or seven times daily.

I read in the paper the other day that an idiot (this guy was really an asshole) that went to my high school is being sued by Microsoft for being a major porno spammer.

It's basically to get passed a filter. Majority of the free e-mail services block it out anyway.
