Who does Foxconn manufacture for?

Hello, I heard that foxconn makes most of the worlds motherboards. What I would like to know is which brands of motherboard are foxconn rebadges/made by foxconn?

Only since Pegatron split from ASUS as a separate company, otherwise ASUS/Pegatron still makes most of the world's motherboards.

The thing is, Foxconn doesn't actually manufacture all of the motherboards attributed to it. Foxconn is a HUGE ODM/JODM. They DO own some motherboard PCB manufacturing assets, either directly or through joint ventures and subsidiaries, but Foxconn doesn't have enough actual manufacturing capacity to make all the motherboards attributed to it. It will often use other ECM/OEM manufacturers such as Flextronics or even Pegatron to produce the actual board, while Foxconn may only do the design, component procurement, and final assembly. ASUS has done the same thing in the past, used ECS or some other contract manufacturer such as Flextronics to make its boards when ASUS couldn't meet demand in its own facilities.

Mostly, Foxconn is a JODM who designs and manufacturers boards for other OEM companies such as Dell, Gateway, and HP. These boards are not just rebadged clones of Foxconn's own-brand boards and do not use the same BIOS. The only true "rebadging" done with Foxconn boards is by TUL and maybe a couple other smaller private labels. e.g. TUL motherboards are identical to some Foxconn-branded motherboard model and can use the same BIOS, but often may have some cheaper component options such capacitors, different color schemes, and maybe a different audio codec chip or LAN chip option.

I remember back in 2004 that the parent company of ECS (Hsing Tech Enterprise) made most of the world's motherboards. Brands like ECS, PC Chips, Amptron, etc.

Actually, they didn't. ECS and subsidiaries or partners were #2 at one time but still far from #1 (which was ASUS).

There was a news story a while back that said ECS was going to start making motherboards for ASUS.

Hopefully, only the low-end stuff...ECS hasn't been very reliable for me over the years.

Agreed. If that's the case I will quickly jump ship in favor of Gigabyte, or MSI.

My experience with a recent Dell (Studio XPS 7100) shows many parts made by Foxconn.

Keep in mind, not only does Foxconn build boards for many companies...they also make the components used by many companies that build their own...often with less than desirable quality control.

The HP business and workstation class PC's are assembled from China-made Foxconn components (motherboards, cases, PSU's) in HP's Plainfield (near Indianapolis) IN factory. About 30% of the work staff at that location are actually Foxconn ID badge employees.
(HP gets an import tax break by doing the final assembly work within the U.S., as opposed to China).
