I own 12 various firearms myself. A couple are for home defense, a few for hunting, a pair of 22's (one rifle, one pistol) that I inherited when my Dad passed away (thus the emotional value), and some I bought just for the investment. There's one good thing about guns, is that if you take care of them, they really don't drop in value like a lot of other things, no matter how much they've been used.

Well, the average gun collector is harmless. People fear the paranoid anti-government/militia dude who snaps and uses that customized bushmaster in public. I guess it runs along the same lines as people who fear any black dude with a do-rag.

I somehow doubt that most of your stereotypical gangsters actually own more than one or two firearms at most, while your hillbilly stereotype probably owns at least one gun for every occasion (shotgun for wing shooting, rimfire rifle for small game hunting, larger center fire rifle for big game hunting, and a handgun for personal protection).
