who do I backup my labtop harddrive?

How do I back up my labtop hard drive? I have some extra harddrives and would like to copy the important items over.

Labtop, lol =)

1. If you have an external DVD Burner or one on the laptop, you can burn your data on DVD discs.
2. You can use an external HD for backing up your data.
3. If you have neither 1 or 2, you can transfer your data to another PC by a wired or wireless network.
4. Depending on the size of data you want to backup, you can use USB flash disks to transfer data to another PC.

Before backing up, I would like to see, what is stored where on my laptop, and possibly clean it up a bit. Are there any utilities that will display the file structure and show hoe much space each is taking up?

Here's how I back up my laptop:

I use Acronis True Image to make a backup, and for backup location I send it across the home wireless network to a desktop computer that has a lot of hard drives. First time takes about 2 hours, but subsequent incremental backups only take a few minutes to run.

Occasionally I set the option inside Acronis to split the backup into 4.7 GB chunks so I can burn it to DVD.

Here's an owl face for you that I like

If you want some visualization on what is consuming your storage space, use JDiskReport. As others have suggested, for actually digging into the directories, Explorer will work just fine.

For backups, I use SyncBack to make regular backups and push them onto an SMB share. If you're lacking a network, an external hard drive will work just as well.

Spacemonger. the most indespensible nagware on the planet (I bought it after trying it and becoming utterly dependant on it).
