I ride to school, its about 2+ miles each way.. Round trip is about 5 miles. I use my motorcycle.. so gas that I use is negligible..

Edit: I have the car pass, but I wont use it until 6 weeks are over when I acn actually find some car parking.. at this moement.. weather is good for riding to school in the morning.

I know a cute half Japanese/half white girl who used to commute 30 minutes to school everday until this year...It was more her being homesick than trying to save money though...

I commuted to college for 4 years at about 30 miles a day and now I am on my third year of commuting to law school also about 30 miles a day. I don't think I saved much becacause the old 85 Bronco gets about 10 miles per gallon and my weekends were spent either under the hood or under the car. Dorm life would drive me crazy though - I live on a small farm and have tons of things to do. My social life is quite lacking, but thats why I spend alot of time online. Also I could always get the schedule I wanted - no stinking 8:00 classes! If I had it to do again, I would make the same choice - no regrets.

I commute everyday including saturday :(

drive for a normal person is about 25 min without traffic..

it takes me 15 min ( took me 12 min at one time )

it wasn't really to save money

the apartment I was suppose to get was given to someone else at the last minute...

I also get money to go to school :)

My school is about 9 miles away....takes 20 minutes to get there in traffic. I use about $15 gas a week, which equals $780 a year, which is 1-2 months worth of rent. Yes, worth the saved money.

I know a guy who commutes 2 HOURS each way! He didn't send his residence app in time and couldn't find an apartment that he could afford.

I commuted an hour each way (with no traffic) for 1 week because my dorm room caught on fire, and for one summer cuz it was too expensive to live on campus... I will never do it again! ... That New Jersey commute with traffic ended up being 2 hours plus on some days! ... If it is too far away I say it isn't worth it. Personally I feel about 80% of what I learned at college came from living on campus. (And thats not because I never went to class) :) ... The best part of college is living away from home.. But sometimes the amount of money you'll be saving because you live 5 minutes from campus is worth it I guess.

Also, most colleges here don't have dorms. Doesn't work like the American colleges.. its more like high-school, here :)

I commute at the U of Minnesota and all I have to say is, the bus is teh bomb! The school has this buspass, $50 a semester, ride anywhere, anytime on any metro transit bus as opposed to paying $1.75 each way in rush hour. The bus is fast and pretty convenient but not as convenient as being able to be home in a matter of minutes walking back to the dorm. Though, dorm life is crazy and hectic, get homework done? hahahahahah. I have an apartment with a friend and I love having my own place, no one bothers me, I do what I wnat, cook what I want. I love it.
