I lean conservative. But I'm logical about my opinions and I'm not a partisan hack and think the GOP is in trouble.

Who is going to save the GOP this year?

The current GOP offering of candidates for US President most pathetic group of all time. Let's give a break down.

Newt Gingrich - He will never be president and this guy is another senile old neo-conservative clown who puts his foot in his mouth every 5 minutes.

Herman Cain - One of the better candidates but his image from the start was tarnished as a nutty fringe candidate, which he could be.

Michele Bachmann - A Sarah Palin rehash? Yawn

Mitt Romney - Actually the most qualified candidate, but he will not get elected because he is a Mormon.

Rick Perry - A governor from Texas? No thanks, that didn't go so well last time.

I don't know enough to comment about the rest of the candidates except for Ron Paul, which I support, but he will not get elected because of his very out of the ordinary views. His son Rand though is going to be the future of the GOP part, IMO.

So GOPers, who is going to step up? This is the most disappointing group of candidates I have ever seen in my short adult life.

You claim to not be a partisan hack but I bet you would vote Republican for no matter what Republican is put up against the Messiah.

Why are you allowed to post here? Why do you waste your time doing do? Your comment is only intended to rabble rouse and cause fighting.

I supported Obama in the last election because I did not like McCain. Do you have anything else to add?

The answer to the OP title question is simple.

Obama and his actions will determine the election

I don't see anyone that can challenge the Chicago political machine. It's Obama's election to lose. The Chicago machine pays very dirty hardball, and no Repub will be able to handle that. In fact, no Repub is willing to operate like the Chicago machine, which means a loss before the game even starts.

Heh. Casting aspersions ahead of failure, blaming the opponent for one's own weakness.

Repubs suffer from their own far right ideology more than any sort of organized resistance from Dems. As the Great Recession deepens, their refusal to raise taxes on the wealthy, the true Bush constituency, will ultimately be their undoing. The current situation is of their making, the way they wanted it, the way they made it, and it'll become increasingly difficult to deny. Enormous profit at the tippy top, job loss & debt for everybody else.

Law & Order! Silent Majority! Willie Horton! God, Guns, & Gays! Welfare Queens! Activist Judges! Greed is Good! Evil Saddam! Terrarists! Swift Liars! Trickledown Job Creators! Tax Cut! Illegals! Ownership Society! and a lot more have cleared the way for the trail of slime Repubs have left in their wake...

It's fun to say "the Chicago machine" isn't it?

"Around the final curve, it's the Chicago machine, followed closely by the Chicago machine, with the Chicago machine in third..."

If these guys pay any attention to the movies, they'll wait until June or July to unveil the Sarah Palin campaign. At which point droves of republicans will go nuts and jump on her bandwagon and ride it til November.

And you're such a partisan hack that you'd vote for the messiah over any republican. Get real.

That's nutty.

It's like saying that Cuba is the country that is most powerful in the Americas.

Those darn Cubans! Without their wrongdoing the economy wouldn't crash in 2008!

With Karl Rove's corporate money, Koch Brothers, ALEC, and many more such things, the corrupters of our elections are mostly on the Republican side.

I still believe that this is all a ruse by the Republicans - put forth half a dozen nutcases/idiots, and let us find out all the exceptional reasons why they should never be President, then at the last possible moment, put forth a little known candidate who by contrast to the other morons, looks to be exceptional. But, do I think that they'll carefully vet that candidate this time? You Betcha!

Fox news is for Newt, therefore, Newt will be the repub nominee. Guess Ann Colter will change her tune when she gets the memo.

You are correct, although I suspect Pelosi and Reid will give the Pubbies a significant boost. Few politicians can avoid opening their mouths even when everyone knows they can only make things worse.

BTW, I still expect Obama will win, not because I particularly dislike the Republican candidates and not through vote fraud.

Sadly the only people who are sane enough to have a chance at beating Obama (Johnson and Huntsman) don't even appear on the radar because they refuse to pander to the base.
If either were nominated I would vote for them over Obama, anyone else and the incumbent will likely get my vote.

Or his continued lack of action and leadership.

As pathetic as Obama has been the GOP in its current form is such a haven of hypocrisy and corruption that I don't think they could pull their heads out of their asses long enough to defeat him. If the unemployment numbers don't go up and Obama avoids coming back to his previous sad sack ways and stays on political offensive I think he will win since the GOP candidate field looks even more pathetic than last time around.

I thought it was now illegal for Dave to vote because he was placed on the terrorist watch list after he tried to acquire illegal quantities of vinegar.

Yeah i have a feeling they will throw Palin in at the last minute who may actually seem sane by that time compared to the current field and she will pander to the GOP base and get them all riled up for a fight against Obama.

No offense, but you don't understand the Republican party. But maybe you're kidding.

Here's the basic process for you:

1. Ensure that the money of the 1% is needed to have a chance to win.

2. Make that money available only to those who support the agenda of the 1%.

3. Have a casting call where any crazy nutjob who will do the above is allowed to say any crazy thing that will get votes. Burn women who get abortions at the stake, 9-9-9, 9/11-9/11-9/11, bomb-bomb-bomb Iran, ban all mosques in the country, Obama isn't a citizen, it doesn't matter - get the guy who can get votes.

That's basically it. Sometimes it works better than others. But their huge money buys a hell of a marketing campaign for anyone, even a Bush or a Palin.

It'll do the same for a Bachmann or Perry or Cain - or this time Gingrich or Romney.

I'm not ruling out a last-minute entry - I hear it's being discussed - but it's not the plan, it's desperation as 'none of the above' is still the #1 pick.

I think that's largely correct.

And I think people forget history to think he can't win just for being such a scumbag.

Craig you do realize, of course, that high ranking Democrats are also 1%ers with the support of other 1%ers don't you? Christ almighty, your man two presidential elections ago was the 1% of the 1%. You're such a partisan hack Karl Rove would wince at your blind devotion.
