Who can recommend a good ISP in Tucson Arizona

Hi
I have a relative who lives in Tucson and I will be sending them a computer. Can anyone recommend a good ISP in Tucson.
Is Earthlink any good ?

Earthlink is very good. I used them for 2 years and I recommend them.

As a free alternative, take a look at bluelight.com. I use it on my two systems at home as an analog backup to my DSL. Compared to some of the other "free" services out there, it's okay. I don't know how they are set up for local numbers in the Tucson area but here in L.A. that's not an issue.

It depends on what part of town you live in. Tucson has good telephone lines and bad ones . . . mostly bad!

I have been with TheRiver.com for over 4 years now . . . and they keep getting better. They use all fiberoptic lines at ther servers, and are linked with Covad for DSL, IDSL, and ISDN, and they are linked to iPass for global toll-free connections anywhere in the world.

Earthlink is OK here, but their speeds suck . . . v.90 gets about 33 Kbps on average.

GCI-Net is pretty decent for dial-up, no busy signals whatsoever and connects every single time. They even used to give you static IP for free. Not exactly sure if they still do, since I'm happily cruising on DSL now 😛

I would take a look at Sprint Residential Wireless...It's only available in Arizona...It's broadband wireless....Pretty cool...I wish I could get it in Maryland

Stosh . . . good note . . . Sprint Broadband Wireless does exist and is good here in Tucson . . . provided you hgave line-of-sight to their antenna. I don't . . . I'm in a hole . . . but my neighbor on a ridge has it and you are right . . . it is beautiful. All I can get is IDSL because our local telcom (formerly US Worst and now Qwest) are too cheap to put in a switch closer than 25,500 airline feet from my QTH.

Andrey . . . GCI is good . . . they provided the fiberoptic links to TheRiver. Where you be in "the old pueblo?"

Golf Links & Wilmot

Pretty good area actually, since I can get DSL here, Cable, Satellite and pretty much any other high speed connection 😛
