Goldie Hawn: Who would have thought when we saw her on "Laugh-in" 25 or 30 years ago that she would be directing successfully and proving that she can handle such a variety of roles. I love to see an underdog win through shear determination.

Steve McQueen: Charisma? I guess that's it. He never seems to be "playing" a role. What you see is "Real Life" or at least that's the perception.

Who are your heros?

why the hell would actors be your heroes? that's sad man...very sad...my only hero is God..all others are just normal human beings that get paid to act....they're not important....they can all go fall off a cliff for all i care :|

Hmm -- I suppose you don't watch movies for entertainment.

Actors, Athletes, Politicians, -- are constantly in the public's eye. Don't you think us "common folk" need an inspiration occasionally by learning about the person behind the personna?
Don't we need someone to look up to as role models? One way to scale the generation gap (when talking to your parents or your children) is to discuss who your heros are and why. Then you can get a better understanding of each persons values. BTW, "heros" just like the rest of us, in my oppinion, don't have to be perfect people. We just don't have to choose to fail.

My hero is emperor nero. I'm gonna be just like him someday: kill my mom b/c she disagrees w/ me, persecute christians, kick my wife to death, and burn rome to ashes. either that or make lots of money.

Actors and actresses provide me entertainment . . . not inspiration.

I am inspired by Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Theodore Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King among many others. Those kind of people are my heroes.

Hero? An Actor? Your Kiddin?

IF an actor was a hero of mine, it would have to be the Major in the Dirty Dozen becuase he actualy did fight in World War II.

Other than him - all actors really do is provide an hour or so worth of entertainment while at the same time breaking down the moral and ethical fabric of society - nope not my hero at all.

My but you all are a cynical bunch. OK, be that way, but what do you think of Goldie Hawn and Steve McQueen?

I'm sure Goldie Hawn and Steve McQueen are great people. They've both made some good movies - "Private Benjamin" notwithstanding.

But what have they actually done?

Have they risked their lives so that you could live in a free country and have an opportunity to watch movies?

Have they made a stand against opression and tyranny, just to show what is right?

Like I said, they're great people - but not heroes, no matter what the popular press would have us believe.

Hell, Lance Armstrong is a greater hero than Goldie Hawn or Steve McQueen.

If that's cynical, so be it.

Xerox man: I like your choices there, but IIRC Rosa Parks was just a secretary for somebody at the NAACP who was asked to do what she did, so the ensuing protest could occurr. She wasn't some righteous leader of downtrodden(black) citizens of the sixties.

istallion, IF that is true about Rosa Parks, it was still very brave of her to accept that request. Atmospheres in Alabama were incredibly hateful and tense towards blacks, it would have taken a very courageous and strong person (especially a woman) to do what she did. give her more credit than that.

I don't look at actors or actresses as my hero's either. If I had to pick a hero, mine would be Mother Theresa or Oskar Schindler. They both went against great odds and dangerous situations to help the weak and the downtrodden.

Oskar Schindler, my grandfathers, They all risked their lives in WWII.

Actors and actresses are eye candy. Sure they speakout for certain causes, but that is because they have the time and money to do this, if they were regular working stiffs like most people, most would only make a few remarks about things of that sort, then get back to work.

Actually "Actors or Actresses" in not my favorite category of hero either. I just thought I would start out with a "broad based", simplier, category to get things rolling. "Everyone has a favorite actress or actor" so it seems --therefore this would be a non-controversial way to start this topic on "Heroes".
Later categories would include:
Athletes, politicians, humanitanians, religious leaders, leaders of science, leaders of industry.
BTW I seem to notice that most people visualize heroes as those who successfully charge the "machine-gun nest" single-handedly and win. To me those people are both lucky and foolish.
What about the people who put in 30 years of successful work performed at high standards using good moral principles? Don't they also deserve to be our "heros?"
Regardless, the person you root for is your hero and it's all about their personality. Either they've got it or they don't. If you want them to succeed then they are your heroes.

lmao :D:D:D

anyway, people who think actors are heroes, should.....hmm, well, reconsider their opinion :) most celebrities can go **** themselves if you ask me, they're so fake.

my heroes? hm.....I'd say all the chemists, physisists and mathematicians that have gotten us to the technical state we're at now.

Actresses: All of whom have showed nudity and didn't look like crap.
I think they that is the best deed that actors/actresses can do, since most actors/actresses are in it for the money and don't do anything truly heroic.
