Who actually set their screen resolution to 1600x1200?

I've an Envision 985-e CRT monitor.

I'm currently using 1028x1024@85hz as my screen resolution

I just read my monitor spec. that it can supports up to 1600x1200@75hz. So for fun, I just tried it. The font got so small afterward, it's readable, but you need to really pay attention on the words. I wonder if this is the case for everyone else or it's just depending on the monitor?

I run 1600x1200 on my 15" laptop screen... If the monitor is built with the intention of running the resolution then it should look fine. I suspect that your monitor is meant to run at a recommended resolution of 1280x1024 with a maximum @ 1600x1200, whereas LCDs are built to run a native resolution and just aren't meant to run out of spec.

So yes some monitors are meant to be run 1600x1200 and you should be able to work with such a monitor just as well as you would any other at its intended resolution.

Show me some screenshots of any system that runs @ 1600x1200. I wonder if mine is normal or not.

My Samsung 955DF is kinda cheap so it's not recommended at that res. The highest I can go comfortably for my eyes is 1152x864. At 1600x1200, it can only do 60hz, and the letters are tiny and blurry.

I was running 1152x864 on my NEC-Mitsu FE991SB, just switched to 1200x900 and I think it's nice with the slightly larger real estate :)

1600x1200 @ 85Hz here.

My monitor supports 2048x1536 @ 85Hz and the font is still readable. :) I don't use it right now, because my new graphics card still hasn't arrived yet, so I'm now using a TNT2 M64 card, which can't handle that properly. :p

By the way, if the font is too small to read, you can always set the DPI setting to something larger. :)

grouse monitor m8 ^^^, how much did that set u back?- it seems quite tough to find a place that does 21/22' CRTs in Perth. Are the mitsubishi's aperture grille- if so do u see the lines?

On topic, i would if i could, but i cant :)

Yes when you set your resolution very high, there are a lot more dots per inch(dpi), so you need to set the dpi setting higher to accomodate for that, then the fonts will look normal.
I used 2048x1536 on my 21" @ 120dpi, and everything looks perfect. Now I have a 20" Dell 2001FP, and I use 1600x1200 with 110dpi.

using 1600x1200 in a monitor with less than 19 inches is a bad idea. even if its flicker-free and readable its small enough to tire you after some time. though for a 20-21 inch monitor its the resolution.

The resolution you use is the same I use for everyday computer work. I've tried going to the max res on my monitor but sh!t that is too much for my eyes and head to take:Q. Only time I go max res is when playing DOOM3 or FarCry.

BTW, I've found this little tidbit that really helps in making things a lot better looking on your monitor. Check it out:).

On my 21" Hitachi I use 1280x1024, and all the icon and font sizes look the same as 17" monitor set at 800x600. The added size simply gives me room for many more icons, and helps with multiple windows as well as photo editing. I prefer this method over higher res with smaller icon/font sizes.

Also, running a lower resolution will greatly extend the life of your monitor!

This monitor is indeed an AG one. I see two small lines between the top and the middle, and between the bottom and the middle. :p They don't bother me much.

I paid around 600 Euro for this monitor, so I'm glad it's working perfectly fine. :D The store where I purchased this monitor was one of the very few stores, if not the only one, in the Netherlands with NEC/Mitsubishi 22" monitors. :p

True ... but when doing so, remain aware that substantial changes to that setting may cause formatting problems for some Windows applications, particularly in their dialog boxes.

I have the exact same monitor you do, and I was running the desktop @ 1152x864 until recently. I now have the option to run @ 1200x900 -- guess it's a new driver feature. So far it works well.

In games I'll go as high as 1280x1024, but that's about it. I used to play Quake3 @ 1600x1200, but I got tired of the console font being too small to read. I can't really tell the difference anyway, with antialiasing turned on.
