a lot of people at work have it on the side. since lots of pages fit in 800 pixels across you can move the bar over to take up 200 pixels and not have to scroll as much.

of course i just run a higher resolution (would be 1280x960... i wonder if i could put powerstrip on here to get that res? i810 video)

top.

its a pain in the ass sometimes though, becuase a lot of programs or popup windows apear at the very top of the screen, and then the taskbar covers up the top of that window.. so you cnat just X it out to close it or move it or anything.

other than that, i think its a lot better at the top. much more intuitive.

Mine is at the bottom where it belongs dammit! I'm always a little suspect of those freaks that move it to the top. And, those people that move it to the side are downright scary! There's a place in hell reserved for those maniacs. :) ;)

Morons @ work keep moving it, I'd be more tolerant of them, but they don't know WTF they're doing & can't put it back...

My definition of hell-20 odd shared Windows based PC's @ work just in my area, I'm always fixing them, & it's not even my job...

My brother has his Taskbar on top... and the OS X DOCK at the bottom... hahahaha... just like those Macs. Believe it or not... it looks pretty cool... and it looks and acts exactly the same... it even expands like they should... nice... but the My Computer Icon is an iMac. :D

Is the lock a setting in XP, or do they just not let you move it period??

If I can't move it, that's another reason NOT to move to XP... :|

I agree. I use Win2k and my taskbar is at the Top. It just works better for me that way.

If an OS like WinXP wants to take that right away from me I'll either not use the OS or I'll get a shell replacement.

I hear ya, almost every new window is "hidden" and I have to either try and resize it so it snaps into place or I have to unlock the Taskbar and resize it so the windows are alligned correctly. I like it at top since I have my Quick Launch, Address and Samurize bars at the bottom...

It's a setting. Right click on task bar, and select "Lock the Taskbar" and it locks it in place.

You guys are nuts! The only thing worse than a taskbar on the top of the screen is one on the side, where it offends my aesthetic sensibilities to no end.

This topic reminds me of a time, back in the Win 3.1 days, that my annoying female roommate's schizophrenic boyfriend dragged my Windows Program Manager taskbar off the screen, never to be seen again. Even the MS phone technicians were unable to help me restore it, and I had to format and reinstall a perfectly good installation of Windows in the middle of a semester of law school - grrrrrrrr . . .

I keep it on bottom since I dock winamp on the right and top. Bottom always made more sense to me.
