I'm proud to say that I bought a 6" USB->mini USB cable for $20 from Best Buy a couple of months ago.

I needed it that day :hmm:

They price match Amazon and so I've got no issue shopping there... if anything, returns are easier, and so I'd prefer to shop at BB as long as they keep the price matching.

No Best Buy here but we got a Future Shop a few years back, same idea I guess.

I only really buy from there if it's something I badly need like a cable, and I always hate doing it knowing that for the price I'm paying I could get like 30 of those same cables at Monoprice. Though half the time they don't even have what I need so I end up having to order online (through a better retailer) anyway.

It's incredible how hard it is to find even basic stuff like a null modem cable locally.

I have bought other electronics from there like a TV though. For stuff like that I prefer buying locally. Though there is a locally owned electronics store right next to Future Shop so I tend to shop there first to support locals. They are surprisingly still in business even after Future shop came a few years back.

They also have extended warranty, which I don't think any online store does. I know most people laugh at the mention of paying for a warranty. But, I paid $15 on a $150 keyboard I bought 5 years ago, since then I've had it + 3 other die. And for the price of a prorated warranty add-on I've been able to get a new one for about $8 a year. And a plus is keyboard models tend to not stick around long, so every time I got an upgraded model.

When I bought my TV, BB was more than Costco at the time. Didn't bother going for a price match since the warranty is better from Costco.

Best Buy Sucks. The reason I hate Best Buy is their service. Blows. When I was in South Korea service was a million times better.

In Korea, I'd walk in the door and a handsome man in a suit would greet me. Outside the store they might have hot Korean girls dancing for your attention. Anyway, I walk down the aisle and there is a person in every aisle waiting to help you. Their English might be limited, but I was always able to tell them my problem. In return, they always graciously helped me. Happy customer!

My Best Buy experience was the opposite. Normally a fat toothless guy with long hair greeted me. I'd walk inside and no one cared that I was a customer. I asked a person for help "what do you waaant!" I recoiled in fear. They were all playing on their smart phones. I looked around for help and no one came to my rescue. I saw people playing video games, drinking cola and even horse playing. With tears in my eyes I left the store. :(

We have fewer stores here... A lot fewer stores, so BB is one of the few major electronics chains online and retail.

I go because I have a Rewards Zone CC and I don't like buying electronics online due to hassle of returning if shit goes wrong. They effed up by Reward Zone points when I blew $400, which pissed me off though.

people who want things instantly. covers all ages

i got my last TV at BB last November. they pricematch online places and its 1000x easier to return if needed

im 32

Yep. I hadn't set foot in a BB in almost a decade...then, in 2011, I needed a new monitor, but didn't want to buy one without seeing it in person. So...off to the Best Buy/Newegg showroom...Not only did Best Buy match Newegg's price, they threw in a 4 year warranty.
That earned them the opportunity to get my business when I'm buying. Bought a soundbar for the new tv there this past January. Their price was a dead match for the lowest price I could find on line, plus I used FatWallet to order it and got some cash back on the deal.

I still don't LIKE Best Buy, mostly because of the idiots they hire...but as long as I know what I'm after and don't need any advice on the purchase  they get a shot at the sale.

I've found that Best Buy has agreements with some manufacturers (like Lenovo) for specially built models that you can't get anywhere else (even through the Lenovo website). As an example, the Lenovo Yoga 2 I7 256 SSD I bought in May.

I bought my USB wi-fi adapter there for $60 IIRC. It's faster than the pci-e OEM card it replaced. I'm happy.

If I can get the same price, which does happen quite a lot, I prefer Best Buy.

Recently bought a Sennheiser wireless headphone, a cable modem, Amazon fire tv. All from Best Buy.

I prefer a store where I can easily return an item.

I've spent a ton at BB, but it's at their Magnolia Design Center. I've gotten some great deals there. Items that Amazon doesn't sell. I dont have much interest in the regular BB though.

o_O So, what you're saying is that I should go to Korea to buy my electronics? :hmm:

The last few times have been those crazy online/price mistake deals that I bought online and do a store pick-up. They have gotten much better in the past year ever since they started price matching online stores.

I buy anything I know that's easy to break from Best Buy because they have the best insurance. I've used their insurance many, many, many times and was never denied.

I have a pair of 100$ bluetooth headphones that I've used the insurance on at least 3 times now. Every time I come to collect when they break, I pay only 15$ for a new pair. The 15$ is for another 2 year insurance; otherwise, the headphones would have been free.

I have a Denon receiver that I purchased for 75$ because it was the display model. The price includes the insurance I paid for it to cover a new model at 400$. When this Denon breaks, I get new model worth 400$.

I purchased the first surface pro from Best Buy because I wanted the insurance. Insurance covers physical damage such as drops. Insurance was 15% of the price. When this surface pro breaks, I'll trade it in for the Surface Pro 3. That's if it breaks in two years time. I have a year and a half to go on this model.

They price match Amazon and are local, so I go there sometimes when I don't want to wait. In the past few years, I've bought a Roomba, a TV, a few pairs of headphones, and the box set of LOTR.

Funny store about when I bought the box set of LOTR. Right as I walked up to the checkout line, Elijah Wood walked out of the store.

FYI. I have a $9 USB wifi adapter that barely sticks out of the USB port. I get 150Mbit from it and it gets good signal. I think you can pay more and get faster ones.

Why not? :)

Seriously, stay out of Best Buy. Make your next purchase from Amazon, Tiger or New Egg.

Last 2 things I purchased at Best Buy cost me $295 out the door, same shit would have cost me $650 + tax + shipping on Amazon. I get deals similar to this often, another plus is Best Buy will price match Amazon or Newegg, but to my knowledge neither will price match BB. The only time I don't buy something there is when they don't carry the item.

they pm. i got some first party games for 3ds for $15 a piece.

they had a decent deal on steam and eshop gift cards plus their gift card promo a while back.

their clearance stock can be good too.

otherwise it's pretty much crap.

oh and one other good situation is when you use a movers coupon. they have good 4k tv for something like 2200 before the movers coupon.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-65-cl...G+4k&cp=1&lp=4

with coupon it would be 10% off, plus a cashback site gives something like 2% back.

if you have one of those cards that gives 6% or 3% cashback at grocery stores, you could buy bestbuy gift cards at 3%/6% cashback for extra savings.

I also found some local stores to be cheaper when buying TVs. The TV I wanted was $200 more on Amazon than Best Buy.

In general, I'm finding local stores to have equal pricing to Amazon on a lot of items. For example, I've bought a bunch of kitchen appliances from Bed Bath and Beyond because they had the same price as Amazon.
