Whitening teeth

Senior member
do they work? crest white strips etc.?
they seem to be quite expensive. so want to hear from someone who has tried
them.

any recommendations?

the whitening toothpastes don't seem to work for me.

thanks,
N.

they work somewhat, dont expect to go from yellow to white.

maybe more like offwhite to white or white to blue-ish white

i like the rembrant strips. work faster and better, i also find that the whitening mouthwash helps too

I've done some googling (well, 30 seconds-worth and then gave up) for the whitening mouthwash. Anybody have anymore info on that?

The white-strips have worked well for me in the past (I used two boxes back to back instead of waiting 6 months before my wedding with great results).

One complaint, they really only whiten between the canines, so if you have a wide smile it might look odd (especially when viewed from the side).

I might try out that Listerine (anyone know how effective it is? and whether you see results within a month?)

None of the OTC products are going to really be all that effective. They MAY take you down one or two shades at the most. But after you quit using them, the discoloring will come right back if you smoke or drink coffee, tea and red wine.

Your best bet is to get the whitening trays at your dentist. I got mine for $250 and they work far better than what you can buy at the drugstore. You only have to use the trays for 2 weeks and then just touch them up like once a month to maintain.

OTC strips are an okay option if you don't have the money and just want a slight improvement. But if you really want to see a difference, pay for the trays or get the bleaching (even more expensive though).

pre-rince with a mixture of mouthwash and a cap full of hydrogen peroxide, then put a sprinkle of baking soda on your tootpaste prior to brushing. Noticably whiter teen in a few weeks at a fraction of the cost of whitening strips.

I use strait hydrogen peroxide. Stuff tastes nasty but you get more use to it after a while.

SO you think if I poured a whole bottle of hydrogen peroxide (20oz?) into a whole bottle of Listerine (100oz? - the big one), I'd see just as good of an improvment as what the other OTC stuff gives if I used it on a regular basis?
