Whitening mouthwash

Has anyone else tried any of the new whitening mouthwashes? Listerine makes some, but I have been using the Target version of the same product.

I always take good care of my teeth, but this stuff has made a remarkable difference. I don't know that it whitens particularly (though I imagine it does somewhat), but it contains a lot of hydrogen peroxide, and it foams up and literally scrubs your teeth when you rinse with it. I now get no plaque buildup whatsoever, and my floss just glides through my teeth. It tastes a little nasty, and absolutely requires that you brush after flossing (otherwise you'll get a vile aftertaste), but otherwise I have nothing bad to say about it. Now I just have to cross my fingers that my lips don't rot off and fall away 3 years from now or something . . .

I brush the hell out of my teeth all the time, but they're still not very white. Maybe i'll try some. But you say it doesn't whiten very well?

I had decent success with Crest Whitestrips about a year ago.

I like it a lot... it works and is easy to use. Only problem is that it is kind of pricy.

I'm not saying it doesn't - I have only used it for a couple of weeks and haven't really evaluated whether my teeth are whiter. I think it probably does do some good, since I believe it's got the same active ingredients as dentists use for whitening, albeit in a lower concentration.

As LolaWiz points out, the Listerine version is spendy, but the Target version isn't, and seems to be essentially identical.

Iirc, listerine came out with it @ ~$6 (for a litre?)...how much is targets?

I would try it... i mean its more expensive than the regular kind but it does seem to work and to me, it is not as painful to swish around!

BTW, i have tried both, the listerine kind AND the generic brand and this is one time i would suggest sticking with the real brand. it seemed to work better!

IIRC it was $3 for a giant bottle. Based on Lola's feedback I might try the Listerine version next time, though. It's hard for me to imagine it working a lot better - the Target kind is awesome too.

I'm always scurd of things like this. I remember way back when when they said the whitening products didn't whitenen the teeth by cleaning them, but by removing the top enamal layer.

i was worried about this two, but i ask my uncle (he is a dentist) he said as long as you don't use the at home whitening kits AND the whitening tooth paste AND the mouth wash all at the same time, you should be ok. Plus, use a flouride tooth paste too.

thanks... but i just try things and if they work, i am happy to say so! Yes, the "real" brand works better for me... i mean.. YMMV, but thats what i have found. Use it morning and evening for best results.

I usually don't mind generic things for some products but others i notice a difference and this is one of them. :thumbsup:

I've always flossed while using the 21% alcohol mouthwash...great for killing bacteria between the teeth, so some whitening at the same time would be cool.

I just use hydrogen peroxide mixed with water. Sounds like it basically does the same thing and is probably 10x cheaper. Rinse with water

Teeth aren't naturally white.

I've been mixing hydrogen peroxide with Scope for a year or so now with excellent results. Pretty much the same thing as these new mouthwashs.
