Whitelisting certain websites/domains?

What would be the best way to whitelist certain websites for a user in Windows 7 Pro?

Windows firewall maybe. I haven't used the advanced features, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't lock it down. I'm guessing you want to block everything but a handful of sites?

Yes, i want to restrict this machine to a handful of domains, but would rather not buy extra software to do it.

Can you edit the host file to point everything to localhost - apart from the sites you want?

i remember seeing a virus a while back which put :: in the host file and nothing would load - once replaced - happy days.

something like that or trusted sites?

yeah i could do that.. but not exactly sure how it would be setup in the hosts file. do you happen to have an example?

Large hosts files can slow you down. Looking at the example, I don't see how you could practically do that.

Did you look at peerblock? It's free, and I recall it having a whitelist. You haven't divulged much about why you need this blocking, so I have no idea if it will work for your situation. Kids?

If parental controls are available you should be able to block everything but the sites you select.

I'll try parental controls. This is for a public kiosk computer so I want to restrict it to certain domains

Do you want to restrict the computer to a single program such as a browser in kiosk mode?

Yes I think restricting it to browser only would be ok, that should work anyway.
