White spots?

My mom lives in a locked down senior facility, so I am unable to verify exactly what she's seeing. She has a large Mitsu rsp tv, and she says her screen has 25+/- white spots scattered around the screen. I didn't think pixels could drop out on this type of display, and I can't see how the bulb would cause this. Anyone have any insight into this? Thx.
 
I’m not sure if this could be the same issue given your TV is a different technology, but I once repaired an LG LCD display that had an issue similar to what you describe. The back light had lenses on the LEDs that fell off over time. Not sure if your TV has something similar internally.
