I have heard that high carb. food such as white rice can stunt your growth because it spike up your insulin which can have an adverse effect on your HGH production.

Don't know about brown rice but seeing as it has a lower g. index than white rice, it would be better to eat that instead of white rice.

Also made me wonder if this is why Asians are generally shorter.

Do you ever think about using google before you post something this dumb? I am truly curious :p.

By that line of thinking, soft drinks, sweets and other sugar laden foods should make a generation of American midgets.

Otherwise you might wake up the next morning, walk to the mirror and suddenly you're Asian.

If rice stunts their gross, it's because they eat too much of it and not enough variety of other foods. White rice removes the most vitamin and mineral rich part of the rice leading to vitamin deficiencies. An example is Beriberi, which wouldn't have been a problem if they just ate brown rice.

I find that brown rice is harder to swallow than white rice.

I am saying too much is not good.

Carbs at night before bed is a no no.

Which diet do you think has more simple carbs, a traditional Asian one or an American one? What country has the highest levels of childhood obesity and diabetes?

My theory for Asian 'stature' is hypothyroidism due to all the kelp and sea vegetables, hence free iodine, in their diet.

The thing is, is that American diets often contain a lot of meat which can counterbalance the massive carb intakes.

Damnit, don't do this to me. Why are you throwing around your completely logical fallacies into a thread that's devoid of anything remotely resembling factual substance. We're trying to stay on topic here, not digress into a coherent and well thought-out thread.

On a side note, if you wish to cook brown rice (or red cargo rice) you should try a Chinese clay pot. Cook it in the oven.

Then you're not eating a very good brown rice and not cooking it long enough.

The typical long grain brown rice sold in american grocery stores is crap.

There is a japanese short grain brown rice that I really like, and you can also get a brown basmati rice. mmmmm

If you care about glycemic index, then for the lowest try jasmine or better yet basmati. Anyway, white rice is nothing more than the whole grain (brown rice) after being milled and polished away, taking most of the nutrients and fiber with it.. The fiber is what helps better regulate blood sugar and keep insulin spikes at bay.
