White out prices on tickets or no?

I'm giving a pair of tickets to a friend for the ballet, and the tickets (they're the print-off from online) display the price of the ticket.

Is it tacky to keep the price on?

Is it tacky to white out the price?

What's the protocol? I was thinking of just leaving them, but....

I only find it tacky to leave the price on when:
a) it's not for an immediate family member
or
b) the price tag makes it obvious you bought it at some sort of dollar store or close-out place.


When I get gifts for my own kids, those price tags are right there, and I make sure the kids add them up to see that
A) I spent the same amount of $$ on each kid
B) They realize that those things don't grow on trees - we had to pay for them.
