I'm saying that women say they want one thing, when they really want something else, even if they dont realise it.

I don't know if you realize exactly how idiotic you sound by saying that.

Now that being said, I think many people, of both genders, will say one thing to assauge their conscience - after all, no one wants to appear shallow and specify that they place a high premium on physical appearance - but when faced with a particular situation they will choose the guy with muscles or the girl with a skinny waist and proportionally attractive breasts than the skinny diminutive guy or the chubby girl. That's not to say that everyone will *marry* said person. No one wants to spend the rest of their lives with an idiot, and by the time you're 65 your looks have gone to sh!t anyway.

I've gotten to know a huge number of asian people (I live in Seattle and I go to the UW, go figure!) in the last four years and I've seen a number of asian guys who, while not bulky, are in good shape and toned, and they have little difficulty finding girlfriends.

Here's my take on all of this - be healthy, eat healthy, and study and work hard. If you're decently intelligent and you exercise regularly, it'll pay off. If you're just butt-ugly - well, look at Steve Buscemi. Learn to act or something.

Comon, do I have to spell out everything for you? I didn't say that women say one thing and actually want the opposite. But they do SAY they want one thing, when in reality they want something different. Or are you gonna argue otherwise?

If we put so much pressure on all our stupid people that they committed suicide like in Asia we'd have a higher average IQ too, because then all the stupid people would be dead.

It's never a politically correct topic, but the truth is that you can breed humans to get desired traits, just like you can to any other animal. People generally don't like to hear about genetics because they want to feel as though they can accomplish anything and not have any type of limitations. But logically they can't argue against it.

I'm not criticizing your point, just the way you said it.

Well, I do agree that men overestimate the importance of looks, but then again, women don't really know what they want either. I'm sure you've all heard the "nice, sensitive guy" story, and then the next thing you know the b!tch is hooking up with some ape from the bar. But, that's a whole other topic for you.

Hmmmm...based on the women I've known over the years, I don't think it would be *possible* to overestimate the importance of looks. I think you've got a whole lot more guys walking around trying to convince themselves that women are "less visual" while the women in question are busily checking out other guys' butts (and other body parts).

But, you're right--an amazing number of women will state that they "don't like guys with muscles." I hear it all the time. However, try going out wearing a pair of tight jeans and a shiny, form-fitting shirt and see how they treat you when it's in the flesh instead of on paper. I gotta tell ya, it's more fun than taking a survey. 😉

this isn't a regular survey. This is a harvard STUDY. you really want to dispute that w/ your armchair attacks?

Again, no one is disputing the study. I have every confidence that the most of the women chosen to participate actually did say that didn't want a muscular man. I accept that. I don't doubt it for a moment. In that sense the study is absolutely accurate.

But those same women, when faced with an actual, not just on paper choice, will choose the muscle-bound man over the skinnier man time and time again more often than not, all other attributes being equal.

The study, while accurate, has no relevance to reality because by and large women don't know what they want. They'll say one thing while doing another. And the next day they'll say something else. The mind of a woman is like a black hole, a region where the laws of physics and logic itself dissolve into chaos. They'll say they want vanilla and be pissed because they didn't get chocolate. They'll exact revenge on you for doing what they said they wanted. They are evil! Don't look into their eyes or they'll steal your soul.

no. what the study is trying to say is that women prefer a david beckham to an arnold scharznegger. the study finds that white men dont' realize that and continue to overemphasize muscles.

No, the study found that women say they prefer David Beckham to Arnold Schwarzeneggar. When a woman says she wants something it's never the thing she says. They have a gene or something that prevents them from saying what they really want. Try it out.

so when women say they prefer a man w/ money it actually means they prefer something poor? i dont' get your logic.

Usually women don't SAY they want a man with money, but yes, they do.

Sure, why not? (Though I wouldn't call my little "experiment" above an "armchair attack"; I leave my furniture at home.)

Harvard or not, any study necessarily has its methodological limitations, sampling artifacts, and the inevitable statistical truth that one out of twenty studies carried out to the 95% confidence level, even in the absense of methodological defects, is going to turn out to be junk, just by the luck of the draw. A study should be treated as evidence subject to rational evaluation and scrutiny, not as an idol to be worshipped.

Studies of people's self-reported sexual preferences and behavior are inherently questionable: a recent study illustrated this by showing that women gave radically different answers on the average depending on whether or not they were told that they were hooked up to a lie detector. Photographs and other flat images may not give the same results as people experience in real life; they tend to favor thinner physiques. (That's very much the case for men's perception of women as well.)

Despite all of that, I'm not really disputing the study itself. I don't doubt that the average woman prefers a lean, muscular physique. On the other hand, how many of us date the average woman? I don't remember Arnold, in his prime, being shunned by women. No matter what this study may suggest about women on the average, I just don't believe that developing a bodybuilder-like physique is a ticket to loneliness. 🙂

Really? So you're saying the fact that you can see the muscles through my shirt means absolutely nothing to women? Because if you are, then you obvioulsy havent been at my work, and havent seen the type of reactions I get.

Now, granted, not all women want muscular guys, but if a woman has a choice between 2 guys, same personality, only one is muscular and the other is either skinny or fat, which one you think she would pick?

Women dont place as much value on looks as men, and other factors matter more than looks to them, but I'd still rather be muscular than not.

My $0.02

READ THE ARTICLE. It didn't say that women didnt' prefer muscle, but it said that white men overestimated the women's desire for the ideal body. Asian men's ideals were closer to the women's ideals.

LOL!

No, I'm saying that since I make 6 times as much as you do, I'll get the bitch everytime. And I'm not muscular. Ok, dickwad?

Now, pardon the arrogance, and that's not how I feel, but its time goombahs like you realized that 4 hours in the gym isn't as productive as getting yourself ahead in life. Now, I'm not saying the two are mutually exclusive, but most muscleheads I know, my highschool friends included, deliver pizza, work at an autobody shop, or doing something comparably mindnumbing. Its no wonder then that they listen to Oakenfield and can afford to spend 5 hours at the gym each day.

Let me explain something to you, assclown - I happen to have a comfortable, well-paying job at an insurance company, AND, unlike you, I still have at least 2/3 of my life ahead of me. And since you so ignorantly chose to stereotype me as what you'd call a 'meat-head', remember this, ya fat, bald, ugly nerd: a woman wouldn't look at you the same way she looks at me, even if you had a million dollar bill hanging out of your fat, hairy ass. And no money in the world is gonna change that.
