So i've noticed lately that my macbook trackpad button doesn't have a nice crisp click to it so i thought i'd look under my macbook where the battery is and i notice that the battery is bulging which is causing the problem with the trackpad.

I looked up the problem and there were people on apples forum saying they had the same problem with the 2007 macbook and that apple replaced their battery for free even when they were out of warranty.

I called apple care and told them the problem and they said i have to buy a new one since im out of warranty, told them they have replaced the battery for others in the past who were out of warranty as well because its considered defective, he said thats not the case.(whatever)

He told me to go to the apple store to recycle my old battery and buy a new one for 129 bucks (yea right)

Should i pursue this more or should i just buy a 50 dollar one from a seller with good reviews on amazon ?.

Just curious what you would guys do.

If you have an Apple store nearby, I would schedule an appointment and take it in. You might get lucky. With a bulging battery I think you have a better shot than someone that just has a dead battery. If they say that they won't replace it, then yea, get the third party one, depending on brand.

Theres third party battery's ?

Yep, tons. Just be careful which ones you buy though as quality can be dodgy.

Definitely try the Apple store first. They've had trouble with batteries for a while now. Bad supply they get from the OEMs.

im leaving for europe in 2 days so i dont have time to take it to the apple store, hopefully it wont be too late when i get back

NewerTech is a known brand, that is priced lower than Apple's stuff, but it isn't the cheapest around. In the PowerBook days, they were usually a higher capacity than Apple's offerings and I think they have pre unibody replacement batteries.

My current PowerBook is using a third party from ebay, and it gets reasonable life, but I have only had it for 6 months-1 year.

This happened to me. I thought my trackpad was messed up. Looked under battery bulging. I went on ebay and bought one for 35 bucks and it seems to work just fine.
