shortly after the mac desktop comes up.i did at one time get it on internet, then it froze.
i am not a mac user, and this thing is greek to me.this computer belongs to a retired couple.
thanks guys.

Ok, so you boot it up, the bong goes bong, the Apple gets a spinner, the screen goes blue, and then bam, desktop. Shortly thereafter, it freezes you say. Does it ever unfreeze?

I would be first inclined to say temps, if it is the early white slab iMacs then opening it up is actually reasonably easy. Let me see if I can find where I put the link to the instructions and I will post back.

Does it ever unfreeze? no ,it takes a 6 second button.i have put the ibook on a cooler
and no real change.
thanks

Wait, is it an iMac or an iBook. Is it a laptop or an all-in-one?

Ok, there also was no 15" iBook...
Alright, when the laptop is open and you are looking at the screen, what does it say dead center under the screen?

Next, when you flip it over, there should be some writing on the bottom, located near the hinge I believe. What is the model number? Should be toward the end of the first line of text.

It sounds like a heat issue, but I suppose it could also be a RAM issue. Let's figure out exactly what the laptop is first and then we can start attempting fixes.
