White Hot: Dell XPS Gen 5 *Dual Core* for only $3,999.00

The $3999.00 list price config:

Dual core P4 Extreme Edition 840
1GB of ???MHz memory (667MHz is launching with the 955x, so probably that)
500GB RAID
16x DL DVD burner
16x DVD-ROM
MCE 2005
2 TV tuners
20" LCD
X850 XT PE
some expensive speakers
etc

not a deal since it's at overpriced list. I guess this is more of an ignorant "hur, hur P4 dual core is expensive". Wait until there's a deal before posting junk.

There is one interesting item mentioned: that the system is overclockable in cmos setup to 3.4 or 3.6GHz.

Considering that practically all dells are always fairly significantly discounted, to give the "illusion" of a good deal, 4k for a new computer with an x850xt pe and a 20" lcd monitor isn't really that bad. Strap a 30-40 percent off coupon on there, and it's decent if you wanna buy it thru dell.

I can't imagine a casual gaming comp going for 4g's being "white hot," dual core or not. But then again, that's coming from someone who just made his first build for $700

The system doesn't quite hit the perfect 60+ frames per second score in Doom 3 at 1,600-by-1,200, but no single graphics card solution has so far, and 40 fps is still quite playable.

$4000 and it gets 40FPS at 1600x1200? Only 4 SATA ports? Not even SATA-II? How again did it get PC Mag's Editor's Choice? Because it can record TV and play Doom III at the same time? Sign me up.

If I'm going to spend $4000 on a PC, it better have no less than two 6800 Ultra's in SLI, 8 SATA ports, and the ability to record HDTV. For $4G I can buy an SLI box and a separate HTPC that I could actually put into an entertainment unit and record HDTV.

Anyone who is willing to spend $4000 on a computer that runs Doom III merely "playable" is a fool.

anyone thinking what you wrote would be an idiot!

have you people NOT been paying attention? a 3.8GHz P4 is FASTER than the current dual-core processors in practically EVERYTHING!

you're all idiots. why pay 300% more for something slower, inferior and possibly buggier/less stable as it is brand new and Dell never gets things right the first time?

your the same morons that pay for premium gas in your civics because it makes it go faster... right?

Take a pill buddy, nobody is buying this overpriced boat. Most here are waiting for dual core Athlon 64.

Well maybe a few buy Dell machines.

My 400 sc was a gaming system.

With the SC420, you can cut the PCI-E connector to make it fit a 16x card, and pop in a X800XL for a budget gaming system.

LOL. No, they spend $$$ for rims and coffee-can exhausts, either of which actually increase their horsepower. Just like the customers that might be interested in paying for that "pimpin'" $4K Dell, rather than spending it on an older Trans-Am or something and performance-enhancing ("overclocking") it. 😛

Premium gas doesn't increase speed, but it does help pickup on weak engines and of course helps prevent engine wear. I never trusted car anti-knock sensors. Of course when gas is $2.50 a freaking gallon I WANT my car to suffer because of it. I laugh when my foot slips and I pop the clutch or the engine knocks.

Why would premium gas do anything for you if your engine isn't design for it? All premium gas is is gas that combusts at a higher compression and or temperature. Hence it's needed in high compression engines to prevent combustion before the spark. If your engine is not a high compression engine, then it does absolutely nothing for you. A weak engine is most likely low compression so premium gas does nothing for pickup or anything else.

Anti-knock sensors work great. There have been studies where regular unleaded was run in engines requiring premium. What they noted was that the engine CPU adjusted for it. The result was lower power and lower gas mileage. Hence it cost about the same to use regular vs premium since premium gave more miles per gallon.

$2.50 a gallon!!!! That's pretty cheap, I can't remember when gas was that cheap. Where do you live?
